Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh - World Tour. 1867-68 Covers franked 1d, to Dr William Symes R.N, Assistant Surgeon on H.M.S "Galatea", at Haslar Hospital, Gosport (29 Jan. 67), Plymouth (6 Feb. 67) or Devonport (3 Nov. 68). Symes accompanied Price Alfred on his world tour on H.M.S "Galatea", departing on 24th January 1867, the first two covers sent just after the departure of the ship, the final cover sent the day after the ship ran aground in Plymouth Sound. This was the first tour to the colonies by British royalty; whilst in Australia Prince Alfred was shot and wounded. (3). £100-120
