  Ireland / Hong Kong. 1846 (Jan 5) Valentine lettersheet with paperlace border by Mansell, a long handwritten verse within a handpainted garland of flowers, postally used from Ireland to "Henry Morgan Esq., H.M.S The Iris, Hong Kong, China Seas" prepaid 1/- in cash, with datestamps of Rathcormac, Dublin and London. A little staining and missing part of the paperlace border at the right edge, the two sheets now glued together, still attractive, a remarkable and unique destination for a valentine. £300-400

  USA. c.1847 Valentine envelope finely printed on both sides in gold, posted within Cincinnati with red Feb. 14 "5cts" c.d.s, bearing the rare Frazer & Co. City Despatch Post 2c tied by circular handstamp, with 2017 Philatelic Foundation Certificate stating "local stamp is genuine but cancel is counterfeit, unable to say whether stamp originated on cover". Also c.1855 large embossed valentine envelope with Lancaster Pa. c.d.s and "PAID" rated 6c, addressed within Lancaster, bearing Barrs Penny Despatch local in red tied by pencil line, envelope and stamp with faults, with 2014 Philatelic Foundation Certificate stating "counterfeit stamp and cancel". Two attractive covers with certificates that may or not be correct; the Frazer & Co stamp is of considerable rarity and value even uncancelled, and it seems strange a counterfeit cancel would have been applied to such an item.
