I have got a stave that was broken off it as a little keepsake. This is a very good photo of it about 50 minutes after it landed". A fine card, by Whorwell of Dover. £80-100

  1879 (Sep 16) Cover posted from London to Bristol with enclosed letter from the balloonist Joseph Simmons, "Woolwich, Tuesday 1.30, My dear Elise. The accent is not to take place tomorrow as the garrison is out, therefore we cannot get the soldiers and it is indefinitely postponed, yours Joe", with a short newspaper article about the proposed demonstration of Simmons balloon to the War Office at the Royal Arsenal. Also an 1874 cutting about the death of a Mr De Groof who died after falling from Simmons balloon, and a photocopy of an 1888 magazine recording Simmons death in a balloon accident. £80-100

  1907 (Oct 12) Daily Graphic Balloon postcard headed "A Message from Mid-Air", flown from Crystal Palace to Mellerud in Sweden where the balloon crashed landed depositing the aeronauts on the ground with many of the cards; the balloon then took off again flying a further 30 miles unmanned to Tosse where it landed with the remaining cards. The card franked by a KEVII 1d (corner fault) cancelled in manuscript and tied by the "TOSSE" c.d.s, handstamped "T" and charged 1d, minor staining on the picture side but very unusual with a G.B stamp. £100-120

Lewis-Poole, organiser of the Aerial Post, to Mr Gates, Manager of the Hendon Aerodrome, regarding posting of items in the Shepherds Bush area as posting will no longer be possible at the White City due to Kiralfy demanding 50% of the gross receipts of all sales, stating the Aerial service is designed to illustrate its use in the case of a besieged city, and enclosing a photograph of the design, with proofs of envelopes and postcards to follow as soon as possible. The letter is accompanied by the photograph on thick card (144x183mm) of the artist's drawings for the envelopes and postcards, as adopted but with "HENDON" instead of "LONDON" in the wording.
