  CANADA - FIRST TRANS-ATLANTIC BALLOON FLIGHT ATTEMPT: 13 Aug 1968 env. to Ottawa with the cachet "WORLD'S FIRST TRANS ATLANTIC BALLOON MAIL - CARRIED BY MARK WINTERS & JERRY KOSTUR AUGUST 1968" The flight carried 300 covers but was unsuccessful, ditching in the sea 18 hours after departure.
