We note 1630 EL from Phillip IV (King of Spain 1621-65) to Don Luis Bravo de Acuna of the War Council in Cadiz with translation of content re preparations "in assembling the sailors you sent to man eight ships and one tender which I commanded to be made ready to escort the fleet which is to go to New Spain (i.e. Mexico)...". SPAIN - OTHER OUTGOING MAIL - NAPOLEONIC WARS - RARE "S" IN CIRCLE RE-ROUTING MARK ON COVER FROM SPAIN TO HOLLAND; 10 June 1794 EL (two sheets; the address-sheet with unnecessary 'magic' sellotape reinforcing two folds) from "Cadiz" to Ghent endorsed "Pr. la Coruna" because re-routed via England due to the Wars, and so with a mainly fine large encircled London F.B. "S" (for Spain) mark (Jay L1057) on the front very with a partly fine red "CADIZ" mark alongside; charged "16" (presumably the 1s-6d rate from Spain to Britain). Ponze to Juan Ponze apparently a prisoner in 'Ples mut' (Plymouth or Portsmouth? - no arrival markings) on prison hulk San Damaso (captured in Trinidad in 1797 and moved to Portsmouth where used as a prison) with separate reduced outer address wrapper with "Y/CADIZ" in Red applied in San Fernando and fine "ESPAGNE/PAR BAYONNE" h.s. on front. SPAIN - OTHER OUTGOING MAIL - GREEN "CADIZ/F" MARK FOR FALMOUTH MAIL: 1810 EL ex Cadiz to Dublin, rated 2/- and having fine strike of the green "CADIZ/SE 11/1810/F" mark - used on mail handed into the Cadiz Consulate after the mail had closed and too late to be included in the mail bag, and so carried loose to Falmouth. Eight have the British Postal Agency "VIGO" c.d.s., several being endorsed "Por el Vapor de Vigo". Also present are examples of the oval dispatch marks of "GALICIA/SANTIAGO" (3, 1 in red, 2 in blue), "VA.GA/GALICIA" in green, "GALICIA/VIVERO" in green & "GALICIA/CORUNA" in blue (2). We note some scarce private carrier marks inc. 1850 "PAUSADELA/y/COMPANIA" in blue on Cadiz to Jerez EL, 1844 Jerez to Cadiz EL with superb circular 2nd type "COMPANIA DEL SOL" mark, 1859 & 1860 ELs ex Malaga endorsed "por Vapor Cid" carried privately by sea to Cadiz & 1846 EL ex Cadiz to Vigo carried by P & O steamer S.S. 'Pacha'. (Northbound coastal mail is rare). Also 1863/64 covers with scarce "CORDOBA-SEVILLA-CADIZ.ASC" T.P.O. mark dated 7 Mar. 1864 and similar cover with even scarcer undated mark. Very fine.
