PORTUGAL - OUTGOING MAIL - RARE FOREIGN BRANCH TO PENNY POST "PP" TRANSFER MARK ON COVER EX PORTUGAL: Jan./March 1794 EL (faults affecting address panel but clear of marks) from Massarraiolos (near Lisbon) to London charged "1/6" with a mostly fine "MR/3" Foreign Branch Bishop Mark on the flap beside a matching black small handstruck "PP" mark (Jay L1024) which is now recognised as the 1794 forerunner of the rare F.B. "PP (year)" in circle marks. Only a handful of examples of this first plain "PP" mark - indicating that the letter was to be transferred from the FB P.O. to the local Penny Post letter carriers for delivery at no extra charge. Also a pair of 1793 (?) EL's ex the same correspondence but without any PP marks. (3). £200
