A 12-BORE EARLY VARIANT 1860 PATENT 'LOCKFAST' SLIDE-AND-TILT SIDELEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 2030, 30in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels, rib re-engraved 'J.D. DOUGALL. INVENTOR & PATENTEE. 59 ST. JAMES'S ST. LONDON', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored true cyl. in both, right wall-thickness below recommended minimum, Dougall 'lockfast' patent action, patent no. 1128 of 7th May 1860, rearward facing push-down sidelever, carved serpentine fences, action face with protruding bosses, non-rebounding back-action locks with faceted hammers with spurs of hare's-ear form (left cracked), best border and bold scroll engraving, the underside with a cartouche engraved 'J.D. DOUGALL'S PATENT LOCKFAST', 14 5/8in. highly-figured stock including buttplate, chequering refreshed and insert repair at toe, fore-end with triangular insert at iron, weight 6lb. 10oz.

No. 2737', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, carved percussion fences, broad toplever, rebounding sidelocks with carved hammers, fine acanthus scroll engraving, retaining traces of colour-hardening, 14 5/8in. highly-figured stock with engraved steel heel and toe plates, weight 7lb. 1oz.

AN UNUSUAL 12-BORE CONVERTED PUSH-FORWARD THUMBHOLE UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 5764, converted from muzzle loading, 29 3/4in. nitro reproved (in 2014) bold damascus barrels, rib engraved 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET, LONDON', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, wall thicknesses below recommended minimum, early pattern Purdey patent action with bolstered flats, carved percussion fences, Purdey patent double bolt, patent no. 1104 of 2nd May 1863, with variant second pattern thumbhole underlever, non-rebounding sidelocks with dolphin hammers (left hammer spur damaged), fine acanthus scroll and feathered border engraving, top tang with oval engraved 'PATENT', the underside with a cartouche inscribed 'PURDEY'S PATENT', retaining very slight traces of original finish, 14 3/8in. well-figured stock including steel buttplate, weight 7lb. 6oz.
