A RARE REMOTE-CONTROLLED MILITARY-TYPE UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE OR DRONE, MODEL 'NITROHAWK', with an approximately 6ft. rotor diameter, a 3.5hp engine running on a nitrous mix, overall length of 69in. and a potential payload of approximately 25lbs., complete with its transit-case, controls for the required two man operation, digital camera and monitor, together with various cuttings, brochures and articles on the inventor and the machine, see notes below
£2,000-3,000
The Nitrohawk U.A.V. was the brainchild of inventor Bob Channon, who saw the need for a stable aerial platform for military and other observation work. It was the worlds first successful U.A.V to overcome the difficulties of being able to hover vibration free at any height within its working parameters. Unofficially adopted by UK Special Forces together with organisations such as the Fire Brigade, the machine is capable of filming a cigarette butt at a range of 1000 metres, larger objects up to 30 kilometres. Unlike the later multi-rotor devices prevalent today which have little or no carrying capacity, Nitrohawk, with its 25lb payload could be fitted with various other devices, from thermal imaging devices, through machine-guns to magnetometers. The last commercial sale of Nitrohawk was to the company involved with the filming of the James Bond blockbuster, 'Skyfall'. The example presented here, whilst potentially usable is sold as a curio. The vendor is willing to discuss making it operational with the eventual buyer, but it will require a full service, and an operator's and broadcaster's licence if the intention is to use it for film-work. The cost of this will be extra.

A LARGE, CASED WOODEN MODEL OF THE FRENCH GALLEY "LA RÉALE", approx. 42in. overall and 32 1/2in. on the waterline, reasonably accurate construction with individual planks on hardwood frames and floors, detailed fittings in brass, wood and lost-wax castings, twin-masted with both lateen sails set together with various command and battle pennants, 30 pairs of oars, 5 cannon beneath the rambade with 'ram bow' or stem forw'd, set on a wooden base with brass and wood pedestals, the whole within a later perspex and wood case
£1,000-1,500
Provenance: La Réale was a 'Lantern Galley' and flagship of the French galley fleet during the reign of Louis XIV. Designed by Jean-Baptiste Chabert, she was built in Marseille with her keel being laid in 1692 and completion two years later. As flagship she flew the royal ensign and represented perhaps the zenith of galley design. Her total complement was 550 men, of which 360 manned the oars (6 rowers to each oar) and 110 members of the soldiery. The ship enjoyed a relatively long commission for a galley and saw service until 1720.Galleys were used by most major Mediterranean powers and first appeared circa 1,000 years B.C. Remarkably their design changed little (though it was improved and honed constantly) and their basic appearance was little-changed by the time of their gradual demise in the 18th Century. The main propulsion was always provided by oars, although most galleys also had fore-and-aft lateen sails which were surprisingly effective to windward.

Whilst it is recorded that royal hunting lodges were in existence in the area as far back as 1572 (and subsequently fell into disrepair), its most celebrated residence was the lodge built at the request of Kaiser Wilhelm II in the early 1890's. Poplar history has it that having been refused permission to stay at the lodge by the (then) exiled Kaiser in 1933, Hermann Goering built one for himself nearby until he could force the acquisition of the Lodge following the Kaiser's death in 1941. After the end of the war, the area became part of the Soviet Union and the lodge was relocated to Kaliningrad central park to serve as an administrative centre.
