Rino Boeri Moschettiere Del Duce around head, reverse horse running across flames at top, skull over 2 crossed swords at bottom, text in Italian in centre detailing Boeri's torpedo attack on HMS Nelson and subsequent death in the attack on 27th September 1941, some minor verdigris to obverse, no suspender, nearly very fine. "Rino" Boeri founded a Rome company which made propaganda medals, postcards, posters etc supporting the fascist government and his company produced this medal in honour of its founder, scarce. Gill, characteristic curved butt stock inlaid with bone or mother of pearl, barrel held to stock with 9 engraved brass bands, overall length 5 feet, generally very fine. Many of the jezails of this period were fitted with lock mechanisms removed from captured British weapons such as the Brown Bess which were captured in large numbers during the First Afghan War of 1839-42.
