Includes an apparently imperforate 6d, a 6d on a front showing a fault in the perforating machine resulting in an area of missed perforations on both vertical sides, inverted watermarks on the 1d, 2d, 6d and 1/-, etc. S.G. 152/7, £2,350. A unique group of essays with eight fine largely complete designs, including the two essays for the proposed KEVIII issue which was abandoned after his abdication, all of which would frame well. Two scarce uses of postage stamps used to collect postage due charges, the stamps all tied by oval Bluefields datestamps. (2). £200-250

A little gum staining and a horizontal fold below the stamps, otherwise fine, a remarkable and possibly unique item, the only such North Borneo/Straits combination from Silam of which we are aware. Click to view full image... 1936 (Mar 17) Cover from Port Moresby to the "HQ of the Archbold Expedition, Upper Fly River, via Daru" inscribed "Per Seaplane Kono", franked 1932 1d and 2d. Flown by the Second Archbold Expedition seaplane "Kono" to Daru on 18th March with an arrival backstamp, signed by the pilots Russell Rogers and Richard Archbold, again flown by the "Kono" on 18th June from Daru to Mount Blucher Police Camp, dropped by parachute as the plane was unable to land, signed by Michael Healy and Alan Willis at Mt. Blucher, with a Daru (June 18) c.d.s on the front. Very scarce, just 12 covers carried on the 18th March flight only a few of which were again flown on the June 18th flight. AAMC P97/103, $700+. All stamps cancelled by manuscript "Hohenau / Abril 17 1903" (written 13 times) then cancelled in transit on 2 May by Asuncion datestamps. Lower edge with tears, otherwise fine, unusual and attractive. £120-150

  1857-58 Leather bound memo book with the handwritten title "Memo of letters written, things ordered etc.", kept by an American, George Cheney, whilst residing at Mozambique, Quillimane, Zanzibar and Aden. Cheney records all letters sent to his wife and others around the world, listing the dates sent, by which vessel and route, often also noting the date the letters were received. Also listed are items he ordered, as well as items shipped home. A fascinating record with some useful information on the postal history of these remote places. £200-250
