The 1970 World Cup Finals represented the first time that El Salvador had qualified for the tournament, having beaten Honduras in a play-off match which was the catalyst for a four day conflict in July 1969 known as the Football War.

Brazil match at Guadalajara on 7th June 1970 during the World Cup finals in Mexico and bearing the printed title The Greatest Ever Save.
