LAEMMLE CARL: (1867-1939) American Film Pioneer, founder of Universal Pictures. A good vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of Laemmle in a head and shoulders pose. Signed in bold black fountain pen ink across a light area of the background and dated 2nd June 1937 in his hand. An ink annotation in the hand of the collector to the verso indicates that the signature was obtained in person prior to the sailing of the S.S. Normandie on 2nd June 1937 (most likely from New York). A couple of very light, extremely minor corner creases, otherwise VG £200 - 300

Signed by Rapf in white fountain pen ink to the image, the signature and inscription a little weak although reasonably legible. SCHULBERG B. P.: (1892-1957) American Pioneer Film Producer and Movie Studio Executive. An excellent, extremely rare vintage signed and inscribed 11 x 14 photograph of Schulberg in a head and shoulders pose. Signed in bold blue fountain pen ink to the clear background, 'To Clara Bow - who will always be great because she has the heart of all humanity, B. P. Schulberg', and dated 20th February 1930 in his hand. An important association photograph. Some extremely light, minor corner creasing, otherwise VG £200 - 300
Clara Bow (1905-1965) American Actress who personified the Roaring Twenties as 'The It Girl'.
Schulberg first employed Bow as an 18 year old starlet on a three month trial contract, although within days of arriving she was made part of the studio permanent stock and quickly became a major Box Office star. However, in 1931, in the following year that the present photograph was signed, Bow left Hollywood and only made a few more movies in her career.

VISCONTI LUCHINO: (1906-1976) Italian Film Director. A.L.S., Luchino, three pages, 4to, Rome, 14th November 1966, to Wendy [Hanson]. Visconti states that he is about to leave for Algeria to shoot The Stranger with Marcello Mastroianni and continues 'Helmut [Berger] is in London studying - I tell him that you was very angry because he never call you. He say that he was not completely sistemato but I hope now he will call you', further remarking 'I talk now at telephone with Gian Carlo [Menotti] who is in Rome for directing [Anna] Magnani in Medea!! He is very preoccupato!' In concluding the director urges his correspondent to telephone Helmut Berger herself ('I like that he sees people I like') and provides his telephone number and address in London, also inviting her to write to him at his hotel in Algiers. Rare. One tear to the lower left corner of the first page, not affecting the text or signature, otherwise VG £200 - 300

Helmut Berger (1944- ) Austrian Actor, famous for his performances in several of Visconti's films, with whom he also had an intimate relationship.
Gian Carlo Menotti (1911-2007) Italian-American Composer and Librettist. He directed Italian actress Anna Magnani (1908-1973) in a stage production of Medea in 1966.
The Stranger was directed by Visconti and based on Albert Camus' novel L'Etranger. The film, starring Marcello Mastroianni in the role of Arthur Meursault was released in 1967.

Vintage signed sepia postcard photograph, an early image of Chaplin standing in a full length pose in familiar costume from one of his films for Essanay Studios. Chaplin was employed by Essanay Studios for just one year, making fourteen short comedy movies in 1915. The most significant of these was The Tramp in which Chaplin's famous vagabond character appeared.

LAUREL STAN: (1890-1965) English Film Comedian. T.L.S., Stan Laurel, on one side of a postcard, n.p. (Santa Monica), 8th December 1961, to Arthur Westwood. Laurel thanks his correspondent for their card and reciprocates their good wishes for Christmas and 1962. In concluding Laurel remarks that he hopes his correspondent will enjoy a new Laurel and Hardy book and find it interesting. Book signed by both Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy individually, a hardback edition of The Modern World Book of Nature, edited by Haddon, Harvey & Wolff, published by Sampson Low, Marston & Co. Ltd., London, n.d. (c.1952) and with many illustrations and some colour plates. Signed by both Laurel and Hardy individually to a specially printed 12mo presentation bookplate neatly affixed to the front free endpaper and indicating that the book was presented personally by Laurel and Hardy to Alan Hoy on Saturday, 19th July 1952 at the Palace Theatre, Manchester, as a consolation prize in the Evening Chronicle Laurel and Hardy painting contest. Signed by both comedians with their names alone in bold inks. The front free endpaper also features a colour vignette of the duo neatly affixed beneath the bookplate. Together with an original unsigned vintage 6 x 4.5 press photograph of Laurel and Hardy at the presentation, surrounded by various young children, some holding prizes (information supplied by the vendor indicates that Alan Hoy is kneeling at the centre of the front row, and can be seen holding the present book). DAD'S ARMY: An excellent vintage signed 18.5 x 16 photograph by many of the main cast members and writers of Dad's Army individually comprising Arthur Lowe (Captain George Mainwaring), John Le Mesurier (Sergeant Arthur Wilson), Clive Dunn (Lance-Corporal Jack Jones), John Laurie (Private James Frazer), James Beck (Private Joe Walker), Arnold Ridley (Private Charles Godfrey), Ian Lavender (Private Frank Pike), David Croft, Jimmy Perry, Harold Snoad (creators and writers) and one other. The image depicts the cast and crew standing and seated together in several rows on the set of an episode of Dad's Army, the cast each wearing their character costumes. All have boldly signed with their names alone in blue and black inks to the lower photographer's mount. Matted in red and framed and glazed in a gold coloured frame to an overall size of 22.5 x 20. Signed cast photographs relating to Dad's Army are extremely rare and this is a particularly desirable example. EX £400 - 600
Provenance: The present photograph was acquired by the vendor directly from the widow of James Beck and is one of only a small number that were signed for the cast and crew of Dad's Army.

Glut, based on a story by George Lucas, published by Sphere Books Ltd., London, 1980, individually signed to the first page and inside front cover by seven cast members of the film of the same name, comprising Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Organa), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Dave Prowse (Darth Vader) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca). All have signed with their names alone in blue or black inks. Neatly laminated, causing slight ink bleeding to two of the signatures.
