John Fowler BB1 Ploughing Engines No's.15340 and 15341
Reg. No's. BL 8619/20. Built 29/04/1919
16 NHP Double Crank Compound. Weight approx 20 Tons
Fowlers were undoubtedly world leaders in the field of steam ploughing and cultivating. Their ploughing engines were developed from simple single cylinder machines in the latter part of the nineteenth century to massive 30 NHP engines by the end of the 1920s. The class BB engines were intended primarily for the home market and were provided with a higher ploughing speed than the earlier types. The BB1 was an uprated version with 7x12x12ins cylinders and was rated at 16 NHP. This range was to prove the most popular size in this country. Numbers 15340 and 15341 were supplied new to Robert J Holland and Sons of Brightwalton, Berkshire. At some point in time the engines passed to William Reynolds of Bedford - his owners plates still remain on the engines. They then went to J.W. Desborough and Sons of Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalen, Norfolk and then in 1975 to Wesley Key of Strumpshaw Hall in Norfolk. These imposing engines still appear to be in sound condition as they have been dry stored in Strumpshaw Steam Museum since that time. A condition report has been prepared on the areas of the boiler that can be accessed for potential purchasers to form their own opinions.

The barrel palm stays and stay pins were replaced along with the girder stay nuts to the firebox, subsequently all re-assembled with the existing smokebox in good order all being lagged in foil wrapped ceramic fibre. A full hydraulic test and 10 year certificate was issued in August 2013. Aveling and Porter F Type Steam Roller. Works no. 10079
Reg no. BJ 7116.
Built 12/1921 Double Crank Compound Piston Valve. 10 Tons
This neat compound steam roller has spent its entire life in the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk. The engine was delivered new to Felixstowe Urban District Council in December 1921 where it worked solidly for nearly forty years until being purchased for preservation in 1959 by Philip Campling of Mutford, Suffolk. In 1984, it passed to Edgar Collyer of Ickleshall St Lawrence still in the county of Suffolk. Aveling and Porter built more steam rollers than any other maker and their piston valve machines either in single cylinder or compound guise proved very popular with their operators and were produced in their thousands in the 'twenties and 'thirties. No. 10079 spent a very short time with Brian Green in Beccles before being acquired by the Strumpshaw Hall Collection in 1986, where it has proved a popular and active exhibit ever since. This roller is in fine working condition mechanically and boiler wise and comes with a current boiler certificate. The highly original engine with good history and provenance is well presented and ready to rally.

George White Traction Engine. No.1470.
Built 1924. Single Cylinder. Two speed.
This 10HP engine was one of the last of the 1500 engines built by George White of London, Ontario, Canada, as they ceased production of steam engines in 1924. It was supplied new to Ivan Heiss who owned a farm and quarry just south of Toronto. The engine worked for 12 years at threshing duties and was then retired to quarry work in Ivan's yard where the steam from the boiler was used to melt the ice in the gravel heaps in the winter months. It was laid up in a shed from 1948 until bought by the present owner and imported to Ireland in 2007. In 2008 after a considerable amount of work which included new chimney, smokebox, boiler tubes, tenders, ashpan and pipework, the engine was hydraulic tested to 200psi. It was rallied for two years at 110psi, it's original working pressure and has been dry stored since. The last boiler certificate describes the boiler as good and details the work carried out. This compact engines weighs about nine tons and is unusual for an American style engine in that it is two speed. It is reluctantly being sold to make way for other projects.

1904 Howcroft Living Wagon
This fine example of a Showman's living wagon was built by the well respected builder Howcroft of West Hartlepool, Co Durham. Hallard Howcroft emerged as a carriage builder by 1896 and within a short space of time gained a reputation for top quality workmanship, when showfolk wanted to buy a living van they would advertise 'Orton or Howcroft make required' such was the prestige. This particular example was ordered by John Murphy of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1904. He was a member of the well known Tyneside show land family who toured the North East with their large fair and fleet of showman's engines. It is understood that the wagon was lived in until 1997 and was purchased from the present John Murphy, grandson of the original owner. Since then an extensive yet sensitive restoration has taken place, taking care to conserve the fine interior. A new roof has been constructed in hardwood whilst the sides and belly boxes are original. The whole wagon has been finished to a high standard, coach painted in maroon and lined in gold leaf. The wagon was originally fitted with wooden wheels which have now been replaced with more practical pneumatics. It has been wired with a 240v mains supply as well as 12v battery power and is fully plumbed with hot and cold water tanks. A fully functional working coal fire with stainless steel flue and pipe is also installed. The wagon has the benefit of appearing highly original yet eminently practical and has accompanied the current owners fine Burrell Showman's Engine for many years and has been displayed at a number of rallies throughout the country. A truly rare opportunity to acquire a superb wagon with great provenance.
