The New York Hall of Science was established in 1964 as part of the New York World's Fair, and unlike many other institutions established for the fair, the Hall of Science remained open and was one of the first Science museums in the world. Unfortunately, by 1979 the museum required extensive refurbishment and the funds could not be found to keep it maintained, and so it closed to the public. City funding was not allocated to the Museum and lacking public donations it fell into further disrepair and many of the exhibits were given away or sold, such as the present lot. The Museum eventually reopened in 1986 and remains open today.
