A RARE THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY BACCARAT ENAMELLED OPALINE GLASS JARDINIÈRE of 'Vase Cratère' form, the everted lip over a swelling band, decorated with gilt borders and a strapwork border on a pink ground, over the tapering body terminating in a circular foot, the body decorated with a scene of two semi-clad classical maidens bathing their feet in a stream beside a swan in a wooded dell, 30cm high Baccarat introduced this form of jardinière in 1867 and it became known as the 'Vase Cratère'. This particular example is rare as it features enamelled decoration on opaline glass, acid etched decoration was more often employed by Baccarat on opaline glass.
