1907 Foden 7NHP Road Locomotive, Double Crank Compound, two speed, fully sprung with belly tanks. Works No. 1423 Foden No. 1423 was one of a batch of around ninety similar engines sent out to Melbourne, Australia in the early part of the 20th century through Foden's agents Messrs Langwill Bros and Davies. These were generally 7 or 8 NHP heavy general purpose engines capable of a great variety of tasks such as winching, wood sawing, forest clearance, threshing, and haulage. With their high specification, they were the equivalent of the British termed road locomotives. No. 1423 is virtually the same engine as the recently restored Foden road locomotive No. 1308 "Earl of Dudley". Indeed they may have even worked together, both having spent most of their working lives in Tasmania. Particularly favoured for their unique double high system which, in short bursts, would greatly increase the engine's power output. Cylinder bores are 6.5"x10" with standard motion work except for the eccentric and connecting rods which were 6" longer than their British counterparts to accommodate the long firebox designed to burn wood as well as coal. These engines had hard lives and were greatly respected by their owners, which explains their relatively high survival rate in the Antipodes. The Foden was saved for preservation and repatriated to these shores in the mid 1990s. The engine was acquired by Les and David Birch of Sellindge, Kent around this time and underwent a thorough and comprehensive rebuild. To fulfil a dream of Les, the engine was rebuilt to full Showmans specification. With several years before its next hydraulic test, No. 1423 is ready to rally. This is an unusual opportunity to acquire one these rare and desirable engines. It is worth noting that a similar 6nhp engine No.2312 "Elizabeth" sold at auction a few years ago for over £200,000. Estimate: £160,000 - £180,000

1933 Sentinel DG6 Steam Wagon (built as) 3-Way Tipper. Reg. No. YD 7012 Works No. 8803 This fine wagon was supplied new to the well known Somerset quarry merchants W.J. King of Bishops Lydeard. It was built as a special order 3 way tipper. By 1933, Sentinel were sending their wagons out with pneumatic tyres. Kings, however, specially requested solid rubber tyres as they felt these would stand up better to quarry work. Although originally built as a high sided 3 way tipper, the wagon now sports a flat bed. After a relatively short but extremely arduous working life, the Sentinel lay derelict in their yard for many years before being sold at auction for preservation. After passing through several hands, the wagon, now in pieces and in scrap condition, was acquired by the present owners in 1999. Over an eight year period, the DG underwent a major restoration and rebuild. The boiler and firebox underwent a total rebuild and is stated to be in excellent condition. It was hydraulic tested in 2008 and comes with a current boiler certificate. The engine too has been completely rebuilt - work included a rebore, big ends re white metalled, new stainless valves and guides etc. It is said to run sweetly and performs well - the DG is always roaded to events. The wagon is finished in Midnight Blue with red chassis and wheels. A Sentinel DG6 on solids is a rare and impressive machine and must be a prize for any Sentinel collector. Estimate £140,000 - 150,000

1908 Marshall 8NHP Single Cylinder Traction Engine Reg. No. BE 7797 Works No. 49222 This impressive Marshall was supplied new on the 28th April 1908 as a special order to Mr Tommy Stamp of Market Rasen, Lincolnshire for contract threshing work. It was fitted with a water pre heater, a heavy duty flywheel and left hand steering. In 1947 it was sold to Mr Jack Nicholson of Faldingworth, Lincs and used for hauling stone. After lying idle for several years, the Marshall was bought for preservation by Tom Paisley of Holywell, Hunts to join his large collection. Tom never got round to restoring the engine and it was sold at the famous auction in 1980. After two more owners, it was bought by the current owner in 1991 in a dismantled state and underwent a thorough rebuild. This included a new back axle and bearings, a new front axle and bearings, pins and bushes for differential pinions, piston, piston rod and rings, valve face machined, big end bearings, carrot bolts and nuts for cylinder, new smoke box plus many more items. In 2004, the engine was treated to a new riveted boiler barrel, new riveted firebox ( by Israel Newton), backhead, foundation ring, fire hole door ring etc - the work carried out by Derek Bouch of Carlisle and overseen by boiler inspector John Glaze. The hydraulic test was carried out in 2007. The complete engine has been sandblasted, painted with zinc phosphate primer before being finished to a high standard in the correct Marshall maroon livery. 8nhp Marshalls are few and far between, and to have the opportunity to acquire such a meticulously restored example should not be missed. Estimate £95,000 - £110,000

1909 Fowler 8NHP General Purpose Traction Engine, single cylinder, Two Speed Works No. 11983 In the late nineteenth and early part of the twentieth century, Fowlers had a very good export trade to Australia, particularly for their traction engines, which were found to be strong and durable in often difficult and harsh terrain. This imposing engine was exported to Australia in 1909 and spent all its working life there. The Fowler was repatriated in the 1990s and, in the current ownership has had a great deal of work carried out and according to the owners is now fully serviceable. It is fitted with a half cab, a good set of rubbers and finished in Fowler black. Estimate £95,000 - £110,000

Steam wagon. Built by J. Borthwick 1976, single cylinder, Three Speed, "Bitza" This unique steam wagon started life as a "steam tractor" built by the Borthwick family from Lanarkshire. It is powered by a horizontal single cylinder Brian Dorkin engine dating from around 1902, and originally installed in Stranraer Gas Works. They added a second eccentric for reversing. The front axle and wheels came from a 5 ton Foden steam wagon. After passing through a couple of owners, it came into the possession of the current owners in 2009, who stripped it to the bare chassis and rebuilt it as a freelance steam wagon. The boiler was replaced with a new one with a wet firebox in 2012. The boiler is fed with an original Foden pump and an extra steam injector has been more recently fitted. The engine was rebuilt with new piston rings fitted. The dynamo was installed in Showmans style and the whole body made wider and longer. New rear wheels were made to match the Foden pattern and springs fitted to the front and rear axles. The 3 speed gearbox is from a three ton dumper truck. "Bitza" is registered with DVLA, has eight years left on the hydraulic test and a new boiler certificate which expires on 17th October 2015. With a working pressure of 150psi and a cruising speed of 12mph, "Bitza" is built for fun and causes interest wherever it goes - a usable full size steam wagon for a "model" price. Estimate £22,000 - £25,000

1955 DAVID BROWN 50D 6cylinder diesel TRACTOR Reg. No. 898 YUL Serial No. VAD/6/10576 The David Brown 50D was first introduced onto the tractor scene in 1953, using a 6 cylinder 50hp diesel engine. They were high flyers in the export market with a large amount heading into Europe and some making it further overseas to the likes of Argentina and New Zealand. With a side mounted belt pulley the 50D's primary function was belt work along with haulage and towing operations. In production for only five years just 1,260 tractors were produced until June 1958. This superb 50D was repatriated from Argentina and has undergone a two year and £12,000 complete rebuild and restoration. It has undergone a complete engine rebuild, crank reground and new shells fitted, along with new pistons and liners (no cracks to engine). Cylinder head reground, new valve seats and guides, new water tube, injector pump, and two injectors reconditioned. The gearbox has had a complete rebuild with replacement crown wheel and pinion fitted and new clutch plate and thrust race. Many new parts made to replace worn or missing parts with new exhaust silencer to original pattern, front axle machined and rebushed. Sitting proudly on 14-30 rear and new 7.50-18 front wheels and tyres. Fitted with front and rear lights, swinging draw bar and pto. Finished in glorious ‘Hunting Pink' making this an exquisite 50D ready to adorn any collection or grace the rally field.

1978 COUNTY 1174 (ex-Silsoe) 6cylinder diesel TRACTOR Reg. No. BVW 126T Serial No. 991717 County Serial No. 37992 The Silsoe Research Institute (where BVW 126T started life) was formerly known as the Institute of Agricultural Engineering and was established in Oxford in 1924, the institute was later re-named the National Institute of Agricultural Engineering (NIAE). In the early years SRI was leading the development of mechanised farming in the UK as well as more specific research into animal health, food handling and hygienic production systems. Due to a lack of sponsorship the SRI ceased operations at the end of March 2006 after some 80 years of research. The avid Cheffins sale goer will remember the wonderful selection of low houred Ford and Massey Ferguson tractors that were offered in October 2005 from the SRI with a County 1474 with 2,606 hours making a whopping £46,000. It was also the sale where a Doe Triple D hit £66,000! This 1174 was acquired from the SRI before 2005 and found its way into preservation. The current vendor has owned the tractor since the 1990s and it hasn't seen active service since 2002 and has been barn stored. Showing a paltry 918 hours this example appears very original and in excellent condition with a solid cab, good interior and is fitted with rear linkage, front wheel weights, heavy duty drawbar and evidence of test and diagnostic amendments to the wheel rims and front grille. Originally supplied by A.T. Osborne Ltd Forestry, Hampshire this 1174 is possibly a unique example with such low hours and presents an excellent opportunity to acquire a much desired working classic.

1966 DOE-130 diesel TANDEM TRACTOR Reg. No. ENM 772D (expired) Doe Serial No. D622 "THE DOE-130 IS UNIQUE...there's nothing like it." states the Doe promotional brochure. Unveiled at the Smithfield show in December 1964, the Doe-130 was priced at £2,850 and generated great interest from prospective customers, who were aware of the previous success of the Triple D. The 130, built on a Ford 5000 6X skid unit was a direct replacement for the Super Major New Performance Triple D. Records show that in 1965 seventy three Doe 130's were sold with a majority sold unsurprisingly in Essex and fourteen being exported, eight of which went to Nigeria to haul sugar cane trailers from field to refinery. Another Doe was exported direct to Australia by the Toft Brothers of Bundaberg. Doe's were forced to evolve due to increased pressure from other tractor manufacturers creating higher horse powered tractors in a more conventional form. The Doe 130 offered significant improvements, but production was limited to just 170 units, with many tractors broken up in the mid 1980's and their Ford 5000 skid units sent for export. Information kindly supplied from Doe headquarters shows that D622 was ordered direct from the production line by A. Ibbetts Agricultural Dealers, St Neots, Cambridgeshire on 26.09.1966, with an invoice number of #564812. The original order number was #14250 and the specification request for this tractor was 12x38 6ply tyres, H/D linkage, half set of wheel weights and GF cab. The stated unit numbers were 828435 and 828442 and a rather competitive 15% discount was offered in 1966 bringing the total to £2,941.86. Further research shows that it was then delivered new to farm to R Spencer Thomas Ltd, Honeydon, Bedford. After working the land in Honeydon it then made its way to Johnson Bros, Evesham, Worcestershire. Then in 1984 is was sold to a Mr R Scantlebury, Parvills Farm, Hatfield Heath, Bishops Stortford by Johnson Bros for the sum of £3,220, a copy of the hand written invoice of this transaction is available for inspection. A somewhat ‘unknown' Doe-130, this example has since gone into preservation and has rarely been seen on the rally or ploughing field. It is fitted with two correct T1 engines in both front and back tractors of which the back was running well on inspection, original spec rear wheel weights and an additional three front slab weights, heavy duty rear linkage, drawbar and original Ford key. Showing only 3,132 hours on the rear and 3,031 hours on the front tractors this 130 appears to have had a relatively easy working life with little signs of heavy use and boasts some good original features. This tractor presents an ultra rare opportunity to acquire a historic and pioneering piece of agricultural history in excellent condition that is ready to go straight to work or take pride of place in any collection. A folder containing the original V5, copy invoice and Doe-130 brochure are available for inspection in the sales office.

v 1992 FORD 6640 Powerstar SLE 4cylinder diesel TRACTOR Reg. No. K664 HCL Serial No. BD28500 Launched some 20 years ago the 40 series is thought by many to be the last true Ford to carry the famous oval emblem on the bonnet, before the merger between Ford and Fiat. Between 1991-1997 Ford and New Holland produced over 90,000 40 series tractors at its Basildon plant in Essex. This range took six years to develop between British and American engineers and was code named P358. It boasted a SuperLux cab with more room, better visibility and noise levels of just 77dB, a marked improvement on the Super Q cabs. The Powerstar engine was regarded as responsive, frugal and very durable. This exceptional example is arguably the very best and most original 6640 around due to just 266 genuine hours on the clock, original tyres all round with an immaculate cab and interior. Fitted with front weights and V5C available this tractor is ready for work or play and a superb working classic.
