Gordon headed "H.M.Sloop Espiegle, Off the coast of Borneo, August 19th 1845", addressed to London and posted at Hong Kong on 29th September, rated "1/-" and showing, on reverse, Hong Kong and London (25.11) datestamps; a little discoloured and with some split panels. The letter gives details of the ship's position and of the charts of the area, the state of the ship and the crew, and much more. Fascinating. Photo £2,500-3,000
