Note: This cover was carried from Durban aboard the "Asiatic" and, from Cape Town aboard the "Walmer Castle", which sailed on the 22 October and off-loaded the mails on 15 November. The half ounce letter rate to the UK via Natal was 4d. (to or via Natal) plus 6d. (to the UK). With effect from 1 July 1877, payment could be receipted entirely with Transvaal stamps
