Balloons - Louis Godard. 1897 Leipzig Exhibition postcards of Louis Godard or his balloon, a coloured postcard posted from the exhibition (June 21); and two cards of Godard flown in the balloon on October 19th, one unaddressed card with oval and large boxed cachets and imitation Tarnau c.d.s (Oct. 21), the other card with unframed and small boxed cachets posted registered from Tarnau (Oct 22) franked 25pf, very scarce. Balloons. 1912 Gordon Bennett balloon race from Stuttgart, coloured poster type postcards (2) and labels (6), one card posted to the USA (Oct 26, the day before the race) written and signed by the American balloonist Arthur Atherholt with the message "off tomorrow for Russia, twenty three balloons". Atherholt and Watts were disqualified for ascending after sunset, but unaware of this they flew to Russia where they were arrested as spies due to a discrepancy in their paperwork. Minor edge faults but a unique card. (8). £100-120
