ADMIRAL LORD RODNEY:- A rare fan with bone guards carved and pierced and pierced bone sticks, paper leaves printed in sepia with a portrait of the admiral standing on the French and Spanish flags flanked by allegorical figures of Britannia and Neptune with sea creatures, 18th century; 28 cms £700-1000 (+ 30% BP*) George Brydges Rodney(1718-1792) had a distinguished naval career, becoming a rear admiral by 1759. A unique group of 18th century theatrical fans, original watercolours relating to Shakespeare’s plays and theatre sets.From The Direct Descendants of Thomas Rackett , friend of the actor David Garrick and executor of Mrs Garrick. Garrick (1717 - 1779) was a friend of Dr Samuel Johnson and a great influence on theatrical practice in the 18th century. He became a shareholder in the theatre in Drury Lane, London and later the Garrick Theatre was named after him.
