Swetenham 2/Drgns (Coronation un-named) nearly extremely fine. Major Foster Swetenham was killed in action on 28th August 1914 and is buried in Moy-De-L'Aisne Communal Cemetery (only 7 CWGC casualties in this cemetery). With quantity of copied research, photo of grave and book "A Frenchman in Khaki" by Paul Maze. Paul Maze was an interpreter attached to the British who was arrested on suspicion of being a spy whose life was saved when Swetenham rode by and recognised him. On getting Maze released, he told him he was going to be shot. Swetenham was killed just a few hours later in a small action near Cerizy. The book is dedicated in his memory. He was educated at Eton, commissioned 9/12/96, promoted Lieut 12/4/99, Capt 4/12/01, Adjt Ayrshire Yeo 1906, landed France 16/8/14, award of Coronation confirmed on papers. (See photos) (T) £300

With various copied research, Alexander Ian Mitchell was born 13/4/69, educated at Eton, commissioned 1/11/93, promoted Lieut 23/2/95, Capt 15/4/99, served in De Wet hunt with Bethune's column, in action Armstrong Drift 28/12/01, 2 soldiers mentioned in dispatches for rescuing him when he had 2 horses shot from under him, served WWI with Somaliland Camel Corps and from 28/8/16 in France with MGC-Cavalry. He was later Dep Lieut of Berwickshire and a member of The Royal Company of Archers. (R) £250
