"AMPHION"; 13 Dec. 1806 EL from Captain William Hoste in command of "[H.M.S.] Amphion, Malta" to his mother in Norfolk charged "1/2" with a partly very fine double-oval "SHIP LETTER/[Crown]/PORTSMOUTH" on the front, with interesting contents (fully typed transcript) from the British Occupation Period inc. "We have just received the unfortunate account of the Battle of Austerlitz...that wretch Bonaparte carries all before him by land...I hope to give you an account of our Victory before long". MALTA - FANCY FRAMED CURVED "MALTA" ON DISINFECTED COVER FROM IONIAN ISLANDS TO G.B.; 24 June 1821 EL (long interesting contents) from "Argostoli, Island of Cefalonia" to Yorkshire with two disinfection chisel-slits, having a partial 2-ring "[CORFU?]/IONIE! mark with manuscript "5½"(?) in centre, but also charged "3/4" with a very fine fancy framed curved "MALTA" (MSF-1c) nicely placed at top left. MALTA - RARE "MALTA POST OFFICE" MARK ON OFFICIAL CONSULAR MAIL TO TUNIS ENDORSED "Franco" IN CRAYON; Remarkable 5 Oct. 1837 EL (two chisel-slits from disinfection) from the Austrian Consulate in "Malte" (endorsed "I.R. Consolato Austriaco Malta" above the address) to the Austrian Agent-General in "Tunisi" having a mainly very fine rare "MALTA POST OFFICE" (MPO 2a; very seldom seen) on the front, but also underlined in red crayon with matching crayon "Franco" alongside, suggesting that the Austrian P.O. in Tunis was not to charge any postage. MALTA - RARE UNDATED GREEN FALMOUTH "MALTA/F" MARK WITH MATCHING BOXED GREEN "½" ON COVER TO G.B.; Attractive 23 May 1838 EL from "Argos" (Greece) to Edinburgh but sent via Malta and so having a mainly very fine rare undated "MALTA/F" marking on the top flap with a matching very fine green boxed "½" (Scottish Mail Tax) mark nicely placed on the front. The contents refer to the ongoing problems of "King Otho" of Greece (the Bavarian Prince who was made King in 1815). Exhibition Quality.
