Chungking: 1904 (24 June) envelope addressed to H.M.S. 'Kinsha' in Chungking bearing 2c. carmine-red bisected diagonally and tied by a superb strike of the Chungking c.d.s.; there is a small fragment missing from the top of the envelope and a vertical crease at left. An appealing example of this bisect. Photo HK$3,000-4,000 H.M.S. 'Kinsha' was previously S.S. 'Pioneer', a paddle steamer 180 feet long. After being commandeered by the British consul in Chungking for the evacuation of British nationals following the Boxer uprising, she was purchased by the British Government, renamed and became the Yangtse gunboat flagship for the next twenty years.
