Peking: 1902 (24 May) picture post card of the different soldiers in China, sent to Germany and bears Kitai 7k. tied by Peking type 4 c.d.s. and sent through Mongolia, bearing a readable strike of Troitskosavsk transit c.d.s. (near Kiachta) (2.6), Degerloch arrival (13.7). A fine and important card taking the overland route through Mongolia to Troitskosavsk and then to Verkhna-Udinsk to be put on the Trans-Siberian Railway.

A Stunning "Pago em Macao" Crowned Circle

Click to view full image... 1877 (2 Jan.) a superb envelope to Portugal displaying a magnificent strike of the rare "pago/em/macao" Crowned Circle, straight-line Macao c.d.s. code "B", boxed "via de/gibraltar" in red and handstruck "50" rate mark; the reverse with Lisbon (19.2) and Faro (21.2) arrival c.d.s. The cover has been opened at the left side and there is a tiny paper split at top, which is of no consequence. An astonishingly fresh and beautiful example of this rare mark. The registration label, erroneously spelt "ulankoma" is just tied by the first c.d.s. and manuscript "57" in green crayon. Signed by Holcombe.
The Post Office in Ulankom first appeared in the Russian Post Office Guide of 1917 and this is the only example of any mail sent from this office. A fabulous and highly important item of Mongolian postal history. Unique and desirable. Photo HK$500,000-700,000

There has been some debate as to the origin of these "imprimatur" stamps, some suggested that they were liberated from the printers. The Royal collecton possesses a set of these stamps and the even distribution of numbers recorded indicates that they were released from either the printer's or Hong Kong Post Office archives and that they were produced for registration purposes. Imperforate stamps overprinted Specimen were found in the printer's archive and other imperforate stamps are known overprinted either Specimen or Cancelled
