Kinross, holding a pair of binoculars in his hands, from the 1942 British war film In Which We Serve. Signed by Coward in blue fountain pen ink to a light area of the background and dated 1942 in his hand. The actor has also penned the name of the film across the image, partially across a darker area, and further added an A.N.S., Noel Coward, to the verso, apologising for not having a larger photograph due to paper economy. Signed by Cagney in bold black ink with his name alone, largely across a clear area of the image. Together with an A.L.S., Jim, one page, 4to, n.p., 22nd January 1971, to Ann, apologising for the late return of a letter he has just found and remarking 'We are heading for the desert tomorrow in search of some clean air for breathing purposes. An interesting A.L.S., Jim, three pages, 8vo, Verney Farm, Stanfordville, New York, 25th November 1971, to a friend. Cagney sympathises with his correspondent over the loss of their mother and comments on his own weight and diet ('This is what happens to old acrobats when they stop burning up the calories…I used to be heavier than I look, now I look heavier than I am') and continues in a social manner, 'Had our first sleigh ride yesterday before the snow plows (sic) took over', also remarking 'Teaching the Kennedy kids had to be as demanding as teaching the current crop, despite the present permissiveness'. The actor also writes of former colleagues, 'Kanin has milked his friendship (?) with Tracy and Hepburn for all there has been in it. First a piece on Kate for "Life" or "Look" then a piece on Spence for another mag. Now the book on both. A friend of mine read part of it and said "That wasn't Tracy we know". My friend doesn't know Kate so he couldn't comment on that phase'. VG £100 - 120

The partially printed cheque is drawn on the Security-First National Bank of Los Angeles and is made payable to Belgian Squab Ranch for the sum of $14.62. A gentleman's 18 ct. gold circular wristwatch presented by Frank Sinatra to Euan Lloyd, the Swiss 17 jewel movement bearing the maker's name Ebel Watch Co., adjusted 5 positions, the case with repeat signature and the white dial (bearing the maker's name Rusel) with baton markers. Plain black leather straps. The verso of the watch's cover is engraved 'For Euan - Merry Christmas 1958 F.S.' About VG £200 - 300
Euan Lloyd (1923- ) British Film Producer of The Wild Geese (1978) and Who Dares Wins (1982). Frank Sinatra appeared in the documentary Invitation to Monte Carlo (1959) which was directed by Lloyd.
Provenance: The present watch was originally donated by Lloyd to a Charity Sale hosted by Christie's (8th October 1992, South Kensington, London, Lot 37)

Hepburn sends thanks for her correspondent's Christmas wishes and continues 'Sean was married on the 22 Dec in L.A. It was so wonderfully sweet and gay and the young couple so happy, so am I as I adore my little Italian daughter in law - she is a fashion designer and is called Marina'. Hepburn also comments 'Luca too now is a young man of nearly 16!!! So he will be next!' and further writes 'I have had a request from Holland from the "blue book" (Dutch aristocracy) requesting the exact date of my mother's and father's death. To my shame I do not know Daddy's exact date. Could you write that to me please? I suppose they need even sad dates for the record'.
