With very large quantity of typed and copied research, John Randall was born in Diss in 1793, enlisted in Norwich 26/1/10, served in India 1812-29 with the Grenadier Coy, served in 1817-18 Mahratta campaign in Bundlecund, at the siege and storming of Bhurtpoor 1825-26, discharged 10/3/32, 1851 and 1861 census list him as a railway labourer living in Rotherham, died 24/3/65 from chronic bronchitis. Click to view full image... 1846 Sutlej Medal (Ferozeshuhur) Sobraon clasp to James Haggan 29th Regt good very fine. With 7 copied pages of service record, he was born in Loughall, Armagh, enlisted 4/4/1839, papers confirm presence at Battles of Ferozeshuhur and Sobraon, also present at Battles of Chillianwalla on 13th January 1849 where he was slightly wounded and at Goojerat, issued a Punjab Medal with 2 clasps, his conduct described as indifferent, he received a medical discharge 31/3/55, his report states, "while serving in India was received into the Regimental Hospital with ophthalmia on 4th December 1851, the eyelids became granular and in middle of April 1851, both eyes were hopelessly destroyed, On 9th Sept 1853, he first showed symptoms of insanity, which increased to such an extent that the was sent to the Bhoumpore Lunatic Asylum. His insanity became somewhat less violent, but the blindness of course continued and he was sent home, arriving at Fort Pitt on 18 Sept 1855." (See photo) (R) £450
