Pte Taylor died of wounds on 10th April 1898 which were received at the Battle of Atbara 2 days earlier. The British suffered 26 killed and 99 wounded, so a rare casualty. With 10 copied pages of service record, George Henry Young was born in Market Rasen, a saddler by trade, he enlisted aged 18 9/4/1890, served Malta, Egypt and India, part of 1898 Nile Expedition, was medically discharged 18/12/99 due to adhesions on the tendon of his right wrist caused by the explosion of a soda water bottle, reducing his capacity to grip objects. Northey (Capt W. Northey D.S.O. Durham L.I. on QSA, Cpt W. Northey D.S.O. Dur L.I. on KSA, Capt W. Northey D.S.O. Dur L.I. on Star, William Northey on plaque, Capt William Northey D.S.O. Durham Light Inf on scroll) good very fine to good extremely fine. Plaque with Buckingham Palace letter and card case of transmission. His DSO was announced in London Gazette dated 19th April 1901, he was also mentioned twice in dispatches 8/2/01 and 29/7/02. He was wounded during the 2nd Battalion's attack at Armentieres on 18th October 1914 and died as a result of these wounds in Boulogne Base Hospital on 22nd October 1914 and is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery. He was born 29/1/1876, served on the Staff in South Africa, was present at Colenso, Vaal Kranz, Tugela Heights, Pieter's Hill, Laing's Nek, served as Adjt 13th Bn Mounted Infantry Nov 1900 to March 1902, promoted Captain 26/11/01, later served with Army Pay Dept and Staff College. First World War The Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George Companion's neck badge (CMG), Boer War Distinguished Service Order (VRI) (top clasp is a replacement), 1899 QSA 5 clasps Belmont, Modder River, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Transvaal engraved Lieut C.R. Johnson D.S.O. R.E., 1902 KSA both clasps engraved Lt C.R. Johnson D.S.O. R.E., 1914-15 Star (copy), BWM and Victory Medal with MID oakleaf erased naming, French Legion of Honour Knight's silver and enamel breast badge, DSO with large enamel repair on lower arm, otherwise generally very fine and better. With large quantity of research, Charles Reginald Johnson's DSO was in the London Gazette dated 31st October 1902. Among his recommendations, "Lieut C.R. Johnson from 1/3/1901 to 30/9/1901 this Officer was OC RE Potchefstroom in charge of a section of the Railway Line Defences of which I was in charge. From 1/10/1901 to 4/1/1902 he was under me for blockhousing with Col Sir R Colleton's column. This officer has done such consistently good and reliable work on all occasions that I recommend him for the DSO." Another "Lieut C.R. Johnson in command of a section of 7th Field Company employed on detached work in the Transvaal from June 1900 to May 1902. The good work done by this Officer in the Transvaal has on several occasions been brought to my notice." CMG awarded 3rd June 1919, twice wounded in WWI, 5 times Mentioned in Despatches, awarded Russian Order of St Stanislas third class 25/8/15. He was born 23/12/1876, commissioned 29/7/96, promoted Lieut 29/7/99, Capt 29/7/05, Major 30/10/14, Lt Col 1919, took part in the advance on Kimberley, actions at Belmont, Enslin, Modder River, Magersfontein, Frederickstad, posted to RMA as Instructor 1903-04, Assistant Adjutant to 1905, Officer of a Company of Gentlemen Cadet to 1908, OC 2nd Field Sqn of 2nd Cavalry Division, took part in First and Second Battles of Ypres, Feb 1917 to Mar 1919 he was C.R.E. 4th Division and took part in final advance in Oct and Nov 1918. Charles Hiscott's DCM was announced in the London Gazette dated 30th October 1918 "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. With his motor machine gun battery and attached cyclists he captured an enemy strong point that formed an important obstacle between ourselves and Allied troops on our flank. He reconnoitred the enemy positions under heavy fire and his conduct of the whole operation was marked by great personal gallantry and sound judgement and determination." With copied LG and attestation papers, he was born in Twickenham 22/7/1893, enlisted in Canada 25/9/14 with former service in Bucks Yeomanry. (See photo) (R) £650

Thomas Dunn's DCM was announced in the London Gazette dated 3rd June 1916 "For conspicuous gallantry on patrol when his officer was hit and unable to move he took command, and after carrying the officer under fire into safety, he returned to the patrol. Later he went out again to search for a missing man." The MM was announced in the London Gazette dated 16th August 1917. With original 1916 typed DCM citation including "The above action took place at Ploegsteert 2nd February 1916", 1916 church magazine mentioning his DCM and also that he was wounded in the fighting at Loos, ISM bestowal document dated 27/1/56, 1956 Customs & Excise letter of congratulations on award of ISM. With copied MIC, LGs and SWB roll, enlisted 30/10/08, entered France 19/12/14, discharged 29/11/17 due to wounds and issued Silver War Badge No 274534, BWM and Victory returned and re-issued 1939. Fus on Pair, Lloyd Rigby on plaque) very fine and better, BWM has been cleaned, plaque with cardboard case of issue. He was killed in action on 21st October 1914 during the Battle of Langemark and with no known grave is commemorated on the Menin Gate.
