WW2 U-Boat action Distinguished Service Medal, 1939-1945, Atlantic (France and Germany bar), Africa (North Africa 1942-43 bar), Italy Stars, BWM and QEII Royal Fleet Reserve LSGC to A/P.O. E.A. Skinner C/JX 155865 (WW2 un-named as issued, JX.155865 E.A. Skinner D.S.M. CH.B.29483 P.O. R.F.R. on LSGC) extremely fine and better, first 6 swing mounted as worn, LSGC in box of issue. Edgar Arthur Skinner's DSM was announced in London Gazette dated 11th September 1945 "For distinguished service in HM Ship Hesperus in the destruction of a U-Boat on the 30th April 1945 and the probable destruction of another on the 8th May 1945, both in the North Sea." With original Admiralty letter of award, cloth ribbon bars, cloth rank badges etc, also with copied ship research etc. Sold on behalf of the family, never before on the market. (See photo) (R) £1000

Leslie Thomas Harrison's DSM was announced in the London Gazette dated 12th June 1945 with 7 others "For gallantry, outstanding skill and devotion to duty whilst serving in HM Ships Rhyl, Rothesay, Brixham, Polruan, Stornoway, Hailstorm and Nebb, and light coastal forces, in minesweeping operations over dense and shallow minefields in the opening up of Greek Ports in the Gulf of Corinth."   1942 enemy action British Empire Medal (GRI) (Civil) to Convoy Sigmn Russell F.C. Durbin C/JX 226561 R.N. extremely fine. Russell Francis Charles Durbin's BEM was announced in the London Gazette dated 24th April 1942 under Merchant Nay awards "A German aircraft attacked the ship, dropping a bomb near it. Under the Master's direction, the defence organisation had been brought to such a pitch of excellence that almost as soon as fire was opened, the enemy was shot into the sea. The two gunners distinguished themselves by their cool and accurate aim." He was also awarded the Distinguished Service Medal announced in the London Gazette dated 11th June 1942. An MOD letter states that the DSM was "for service aboard H.M.S. Leigh and that he shot down a Heinkel while in F.S. Convoy on 27 December 1941. He was a consistently good signalman and conducted himself admirably under fire." HMS Leigh was actually the name for Southend-on-Sea pier in WW2 which was used as a mustering point for convoys. He appears to have been commissioned Temp Sub-Lieut in RNVR 3/7/42 with copy of Navy List, LGs etc. Also sold with his father's 1914-15 Star trio to M2-047923 Pte C.F. Durbin A.S.C. (initials are F.C. on star) rank on star largely erased, otherwise good very fine. With copied MIC and 3 pages of service record, Charles Frederick Durbin enlisted 13/2/15 aged 34 with former service in R.W. Kent V.B., to France 13/4/15, employed as a lorry driver, son Russell born 3/1/16, discharged 27/6/19. (R) £220

  Family group with father's 1914-15 Star trio and KGV Imperial Service Medal to 47701 Spr J.A. Rathbone (James Ashburner Rathbone on ISM) with ISM box of issue. He entered France 5/12/14, ISM in London Gazette dated 2nd October 1936 as Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist Liverpool, died 30/1/41 leaving effects to Harold Rathbone. Son's 1923 GSM Palestine clasp, WW2 1939-1945, France and Germany Stars, Defence Medal, BWM, QEII Imperial Service Medal and KGVI Territorial Efficiency Medal to 552245 Sigmn H. Rathbone R. Sigs (1255 B. Const Pal Police on GSM, WW2 un-named as issued, Harold on ISM). ISM in London Gazette dated 29th September 1972 as Postal and Telegraph Officer Liverpool. Other son's 1939-1945, Atlantic Stars and BWM attributed to Francis Rathbone who was killed in action as Fourth Officer on the SS Yorkshire when she was torpedoed and sunk by U-37 on 17th October 1939 with the loss of 25 crew and 33 passengers and with no known grave is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial. All medals are extremely fine to mint, Comes with 2 ISM boxes of issue and 3 WW2 boxes of issue but most details missing where sellotape has been removed. With copied MIC, CWGC, LGs etc. (T) £300

Triggs Ches R. on Victory, WW2 un-named as issued) very fine and better. With WW2 transmittal slip and War Office box of issue addressed to W.S. Major G.E. Triggs, Cheshire Regt, address then crossed out and new address Wallasey, Cheshire added. He was commissioned in Kings Regt 28/6/41, attached to 26/9th Jat Regiment in India, transferred as Major to Cheshire Regt 26/11/46, relinquished commission on account of disability 22/12/49 and granted honorary rank of Lt Col. With original service parchment, gunnery history sheet, New York ID card listed as Naval Gunner and various other forms, Leslie Anderson Woodward enlisted 23/11/42, served HMS President III which was admin HQ for Armed Merchant Vessels, hand written note he was sunk 3 times but this un-verified.   WW2 Memorial Scroll to Private A. Nixon King's Own Royal Regiment, unfolded, light foxing around edges. Albert Nixon died as 3711206 Pte 5th Bn KORR on 3rd January 1941 and is buried in Lancaster (Scotforth) Cemetery. With a copied newspaper article dated 4th January 1941 "A verdict of accidental death was returned at an inquest on two soldiers who were killed by an explosion of an object washed up on the beach at Lowestoft. It was stated that the men Private Harold Farey (25) and Albert Nixon (20) found the object on the foreshore and placed it in a wheelbarrow to take it away for inspection. Apparently it fell off and as it was being replaced it exploded." While CWGC lists him as 20, it is undoubtedly the same person, Harold Betram Farey who died in the explosion was also from the 5th Bn KORR. With copied CWGC details. (R) £40
