The albums feature 'World' collections, ( GB entries to the late 1950s ). Philately. Commenced as a child's Christmas present in 1944 this very large selection of philatelic material represents in excess of 50 years enthusiastic and dedicated study by a specialist. Major parts of the collection are focussed on the postage stamps of Australia and are housed in albums of exceptional quality, together with large quantities of covers and postal history items and a substantial amount of unsorted material. Also included are some good quality 'general' collections - World, U.K. ( Victoria until 21st.Century ), together with two further albums dedicated to 'Royal Occasions' containing commemorative issues. Marriage Settlement, October 1763. Complex and extensive Marriage Settlement Vellum Deed relating to the Gery and Bell families residing in Eaton Socon, Bushmead and Bedford in Bedfordshire. The deed also refers to land and property in Thurleigh and Milton Ernest, also in Bedfordshire. This is an extensive document comprising 7 large sheets measuring 86cm by 68cm. Other names appearing on the signatories section are Towersy, Welby and Birt together with wax seals. Vg. Estimate £30 - £40

19th.Century Education - Documentary Ephemera. Original vellum bound folio account ledger for 'Alpha House Preparatory School for Young Gentlemen' Cresswell Park, Blackheath, S.E. Names featured on the outer cover are : 'Miss E. Shair, 1866 to 1869 & Mrs. C.E.A. Gibbs, 1869 to 1873' - presumably Head Teachers. Entries in the ledger are mainly related to the accounts for individual students and include the following : One year's board, half a year instruction in German, 9 Postages to India, one History of Greece 3/6d, Euclid 2/6d., for slippers made to order, Xmas vacation one week 10/6d., Exc. to Crystal Palace 5/-, 2 teeth ext. 2/-, Haircutt (sic) & Pomade 2/- + 1/-, slate 1/-, and many more fascinating entries/items which provide perhaps a unique insight into the contemporary life of students in this environment. Also included loosely in the front of the ledger are a manuscript table of examination results for particular classes and a manuscript copy of a curriculum timetable which specifies times of lessons and content, starting with morning lessons and finishing with evening sessions! Also a note referring to a 'Bad Debt' amounting to £73.42p! Vellum binding somewhat marked but very sound. Contents, incl. loose items, very clean, bright and legible. Estimate £80 - £120

Commonplace books/albums. Two 19th.C. items, one 8vo bound in maroon straight grained morroco aeg, with a label indicating that it was kept by Miss Ann Irving ( Mrs. Ann Swift ) from the year 1826. This album features beautifully executed calligraphy ( copied poetry and prose), some fine pencil sketches and silhouette work and one accomplished pen and ink sketch of Leamington Church. The second album is qto, gilt, aeg and features mainly skilful calligraphy. The binding and contents of the smaller album are well preserved; the binding of the larger needs repair and restoration, contents vg. Estimate £50 - £60

R A F 5 I.T.W. ( Initial Training Wing ), 2 SQUADRON, A FLIGHT. Dinner Menu Card, Monday, 10th. February, 1941. An original menu card featuring details of the meal and then the toasts proposed to the King, No.2 Squadron, Flight Commander and Flight N.C.O. In addition the card also features the signatures of all present at the meal on the reverse including Squadron Leader S.Glover, D.C.M., M.M. Card a little foxed on the outer surface otherwise clean and quite bright with the signatures all clearly legible. Estimate £20 - £30

Aircraft Recognition Binder ( A.P. 1764 'Not to be taken in the Air' ) containing monochrome photo-type illustration cards of British, French and German Aircraft. German aircraft featured have the 'Swastika' emblem on the tail fins together with the cross. Binder appears to be either just pre-WW2 or a contemporaneous aid to aircraft recognition. Possibly used as a form of training manual. The binder is a little soiled and has obviously been well used but is still sound. Photo-cards in vg condition. Estimate £20 - £30

Heraldic 'Genealogy' Table on Vellum. The table features generations of the Cave family that has some association with Bedford which is also mentioned. Water colour has been employed to enhance the presentation of the shields. The date of composition of the table remains uncertain, early 19th. or late 18th.C. given the handwritten script employed within the circular medallion-type lozenges for each generation and some forms of spelling.
