  1861 (Jan 29) Letter written by Sir Edward Drummond-Hay, Governor of St. Helena, to his friend "Bell", referring to the visit of Prince Alfred, a serving officer on H.M.S "Euryalus" when the ship visited St. Helena in September 1860. The Prince dined with the Governor at Plantation House and attended a ball at The Castle. £100-120

  1829 Entire, apparently from Cape Town to the Jerusalem Coffee House in London, endorsed "p. Mary via St. Helena", reverse with forwarding agents endorsement "Forwarded from St. Helena p. H.M.S Java 11th November 1829", Portsmouth Ship Letter and London arrival datestamp (Jan 11), charged 1/4. Very unusual, forwarded on a named naval ship. Photo on Page 212. £500-600

  1835 (Sep 28) Entire letter written and signed by William Carroll, to London, "WEYMOUTH / SHIP LETTER" and London arrival c.d.s (Nov. 21), charged 1/6. Carroll writes "Having been the Agent here for many years to all the South Sea owners, makes it a duty incumbent on me, to acquaint you that your ship "Harriet" (Bunker) arrived here this morning from Japan, hailing 1900 barrels sperm oil ....". The enclosed letter, on notepaper of "The Castle", is written and signed by R.A Sterndale, Governor of St. Helena - "I hope the enclosed autographs which you wished for will make a small addition to your collection. I have signed the card you sent me but General Cronje does not like being asked and so I send you his signature from one of the letters addressed to me". The two pieces, signed by Cronje and Sterndale, are enclosed. £200-240
