Lots 2088-2094
The following seven lots are all from the archive of Auguste and Jean Gossein. They were both born circa 1880/90 in Sangatte pas-de-calais and moved to England when they were young men. Auguste initially worked as a 'Native French Professor' teaching at Trent College and Sheffield University. Jean was an artist, and in the 1911 consensus was listed as being a designer, based in Derbyshire, later becoming a British Citizen in 1926.They went on to trade as 'Gossein Brothers, Laces, Plain and Fancy Nets Manufacturers', at 56 High Pavement (now Lace Market House), Nottingham. Included in the following lots are Jeans intricate lace designs and lace samples; also, his stylish watercolour designs produced circa 1930-50 for wallpaper, fabrics, linoleum, carpets and rugs. Some in differing colour ways, all signed in pencil with pattern repeat and number.
