Stephen Elliott (1815-1910) was a manufacturing Hosier from Swanwick, Near Alfreton, Derbyshire. Stephen began work at the age of 6 and by 15 had mastered the art of stocking making, going on to open his first factory in 1847.The following six lots belonged to Harriet Elliott (1871-1950) and was great granddaughter of Stephen.Elliotts were patronised by royalty and the upper classes, including Queen Mary, Queen Victoria, Queen Alexandra, Maharajah of Patialia and nobility. Each item was either woven with a capital 'E' or stamped with the 'swan' for Swanwick. The factory closed in 1950.
