A Napoleon III, mid-19th century French scent casket by Tahan, circa 1860 Of rectangular box form with canted corners, the ebonised and gilt metal inlay and strung exterior with three inset painted ivory bosses of flowers beneath glass, opening to reveal a tulipwood interior with three square form scent bottles with stoppers decorated with gilt stars. Marked 'TAHAN F T<$>A PARIS' to the interior lid lock plate. Length-18.5 cm / 7.25 inches Width-9 cm / 3.5 inches Height-10 cm / 4 inches λ £200-300 Alphonse Tahan (active 1830-1880) was the official cabinet maker to Emperor Napoleon III. Located at 30 Rue De La Paix from 1849 onwards and Boulevard Des Italiens from 1878. The work of Tahan was exhibited at both the Crystal Palace exhibition of 1851 and the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1855, winning medals on both occasions.

Also includes two George III Old English pattern spoons, London date letter obscured (Cycle XV) by John Lampfert (reg. Jan 1749), also with bull's head erased to dexter with Ducal coronet below.
