FOOTNOTE: Berman was born at Petrograd and in the early part of his career he painted mainly portraits and landscapes. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon d'Automme from 1923-25 and at the Salon des Tuileries between 1925 and 27. Berman worked in America before moving to Rome where he specialised in designs for costumes for the opera.
