The Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George Knight's Grand Cross (GCMG) collar chain good extremely in Garrard's box of issue (hinge area repaired) attributed to Sir Montagu Frederick Ommanney. His GCMG was announced in the London Gazette dated 8th November 1904. He was born 4/4/1842, commissioned in Royal Engineers 19/1/64, appointed Instructor in Military Drawing at RMA 1/5/71, retired as a Capt 10/4/78, served as the Crown Agent for the Colonies 1878-1900, Permanent Under Secretary of State for the Colonies 1900-06, Secretary of the Order of St Michael and St George 1900-09 and King of Arms of the Order of St Michael and St George 1909-24, also awarded KCMG 1890, KCB 1901 and ISO 1903. Sold with silver hip flask (hallmarked 1906 Birmingham) engraved with monogram and within scroll below 1882 / April 29th / 1907, cup part of flask engraved Sir Montagu F. Ommanney G.C.M.G., K.C.B., a very ornate 33cm tall silver trumpet vase (hallmarked 1898 Chester) with some monogram engraved as the hip flask, a full length photograph in uniform with orders and medals, page from 1906 Tatler with photo and some copied research. Ex Spink Oct 1974, DNW June 2000 and May 2015, the first 2 times it was sold it was with a single Java clasp, he was entitled to Egypt clasp but this was authorised in 1851, when DNW sold the medal in 2015 it had been reconstituted with both clasps, only 7 in the regiment issued both clasps. Also fitted with crude copy triple clasp engraved Aliwal, Sobroan, Sutlej and additional double clasp engraved Long Service, Good Conduct. The printed casualty roll lists a 2140 Charles Hally as wounded at Battle of Sobraon on 10th February 1846, possibly the same man and worthy of further research. (See photo) (Y) £300 + 21.6% BP*

With 4 copied pages of service papers, Thomas Lechany was born in Kilbonnan, Co Roscommon, enlisted 27/3/48, served Crimea 15 months, Malta 46 months and West Indies 52 months, discharged 21/9/69. Miniature 1855 Turkish Crimea (Sardinian), Crimea Medal 3 clasps Alma Inkermann, Sebastopol and Sardinian War Medal attributed to Capt William Spicer Cookworthy 1st Bn 1st Foot good quality miniatures, very fine and better mounted on triple buckle bar in incorrect order as listed. He was awarded the Sardinian War Medal for "Faithful, zealous, and active in the discharge of his duties throughout the whole campaign." With copied rolls, Army List and hand written family notes, was born circa 1828, commissioned 14/3/51, Lieut 18/10/53, Capt 22/8/56, exchanged to 60th Foot 4/9/57, retired 30/6/63, died 18/12/79, while Governor of H.M. With hand written roll extract for IGSM, states engaged in the storming and capture of Reshire, the surrender of Bushire and the Battle of Kooshiab, roll then states dead. John Brett was also issued an Indian Mutiny Medal Defence of Lucknow clasp which states killed in Oct 1857, a printed roll states killed in action 21st October 1857 Cawnpore and the Casualty Roll by Lavender states killed in action Cawnpore 28/11/57.
