The tiered base supported on rectangular feet with cut corners below a key-fret border, decorated around the sides with lotus flowers and scrolling floral spray, the body of the two removable miniature baluster vases and covers, the domed cover of the central inkwell, and the domed cover of the oblong pen compartment similarly decorated, pen holder housing a cloisonné enamel pen decorated with leafy foliage, the top of the base is decorated with a regular arrangement of yellow flower heads each set within a lapis-blue bordered hexagon, all reserved on a turquoise blue ground, the turquoise base inlaid with cloisons to form four lotus flowers enclosing a central flower head among scrolling foliage, 12 x 24 x 17cm. £15,000-20,000 Literature: a closely related writing set is in the Robert Chang collection, published Colorful, Elegant and Exquisite: a Special Exhibition of Imperial Enamel Ware from Mr Robert Chang's Collection, 2007, pp 121-122.
