This is one of only two clasps issued to DLI. With copied roll, Morris Morris was attached to the Government Telegraph Department of the Punjab Division, only present for 2 days 15th May to 16th May, roll marked "Not to be replaced, man sold medal". Cowley North'd Fus (2142 Srgt 1/Northd Fus on Sudan, 2142 Sgt on QSA, S.Mjr on Star, 2142 Serjt on Khedive's) first 2 with heavy contact marks, fine to extremely fine. Harry Cowley was killed in action aged 47 as the Regimental Sergeant Major 13th Bn on 12th November 1915 and is buried in Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres. The War Diary records "On the 12th one H.E. shell burst at entrance to one of the billets & killed the RSM, the Signalling Sergeant and 4 other NCOs and men and wounded two others." With 10 copied pages of service record, CWGC, Soldiers Died, MIC and War Diary extract, he was born in Stony Stratford, enlisted 13/4/88 aged 18, promoted Cpl 8/12/92, Sgt 7/11/94, CSgt 1/11/02, discharged 12/4/09. He was wounded in action at Battle of Modder River 28/11/99. Re-enlisted for WWI, landed France 9/9/15. (See photo) (R) £700

Click to view full image... 1917 Battle of Menin Road attack on Hessian Wood Distinguished Conduct Medal, 1914-15 Start trio, 1909 India GSM Waziristan 1921-24 clasp and French Medaille Militaire to 16757 Cpl T.J. Green Welsh R. (L.Cpl 9/Welsh R on DCM, Pte on Star, 3951898 Pte on IGSM, MM un-named as issued) polished with odd edge knock, fine to very fine, MM missing 50% of enamel. Thomas Green's DCM was announced in the London Gazette dated 19th November 1917 and 6th February 1918, "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When the advance was held up by a group of enemy strong points he led a party forward and captured them, together with two machine guns and a large number of prisoners. Later he located an enemy post, and single-handed compelled the enemy to retire from it. He set a magnificent example to his men." With a copy of the War Diary which confirms the DCM was awarded for the attack on Hessian Wood on 20th September 1917. The battalion suffered heavy casualties, mostly from MG fire with 40 killed, 210 wounded and 40 missing. With copied MIC and LG, he landed France 18/7/15, discharged 20/4/19, clearly re-enlisted, number confirmed on IGSM, French award un-confirmed. (See photo) (R) £1200

William Wilkinson's MM was announced in the London Gazette dated 17th June 1919 serving with 1st Shrops Bty and his MID was in Haig's despatch dated 7th April 1918. With copied MIC and LGs, landed France with 11th Bde 7/11/14, MIC states ineligible for clasp and roses. (R) £400

Click to view full image... WWI 1914-15 Star trio and Russian Medal of St George 4th Class No 1273271 to PO.12974 Pte M Underhill R.M.L.I. good very fine and better. Award of Medal of St George confirmed received on service papers 31/7/19. With copied service paper, Mark Underhill was born in Brierley Hill 19/2/83, enlisted 19/5/03, served WWI on light cruiser HMS Galatea who was assigned as leader of the 2nd Destroyer Flotilla at Harwich. On 4th May 1916, she took part in the shooting down of the zeppelin L7. She was present at the Battle of Jutland as the flagship of 1st Light Cruiser Squadron and was the first ship to report the German fleet. He was discharged 22/7/24. (See photo) (R) £250

Frederick Harris was killed in action in the Battle of Nonne Bosschen on 11th November 1914 and with no known grave is commemorated on the Menin Gate. Charles McWilliam Paterson was killed in action as No 6316 with 7th Bn during the Battle of Beaumont Hamel on 14th November 1916 and is buried in Y Ravine Cemetery, Beaumont Hamel. With copied CWGC, Soldiers Died, MIC and rolls, the MIC only lists the number S-9925, but rolls confirm both numbers, originally served with 10th Bn. (R) £120
