  QEII BR OMN (1953-54) Colonial Police Long Service Medal re-named in official style to Insp Gen Major-Gen Charles C. Fowkes C.B.E., D.S.O., M.C., Kenya Police Res nearly extremely fine. Charles Christopher Fowkes was commissioned from RMA into South Wales Borderers 11/8/14, MC in LG 18/9/18 "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Under a heavy enemy attack on his company, he stuck to his work after being early wounded, and under very trying circumstances set a splendid example to his men." Awarded a Bar to MC in Russia in LG 21/1/20 while attached to 45th Bn R Fusiliers "For gallant and able leadership. On 7th September 1919, he led two platoons successfully against a Bolo battalion, capturing over 100 prisoners and three machine guns, and killing some 100 enemy. Our casualties amounted to one O.R wounded. Throughout the operation he did well." In WW2 he commanded 22nd East African Bde in Kenya, then commanded 12th Div in the Ethiopian Command. Later commanded 11th Div in Burma Campaign and was awarded C.B.E., D.S.O., MID, Haile Selassie I Military Medal with 2 Palms, 1954 awarded Queen's Police Medal, 1955 appointed Hon Col of KAR, with various copied LGs.   1821 Pattern Light Cavalry sword by Pulford & Son St James's St London, steel scabbard with 2 rings has been painted black, otherwise very fine. Blade is 50% etched on both sides with crown and VR over bugle horn with 71 inside, 71st Foot became the Highland Light Infantry in 1881. The hilt being cavalry and blade etchings being infantry suggest it has been re-bladed at some time, scabbard also loose so perhaps not original scabbard for this sword. £80
