An early 19thC (c.1825) 32nd Native Infantry officers red dress coatee, with silver bullion front adornments and matching epaulettes. Silver buttons of convex manufacture (29) adorn the coatee with silver bullion cuffs and tails with black backings. A 19thC 32nd Native Infantry officers tunic in red with black backings to collar, cuffs and tails with silver bullion adornments. A 19thC 32nd Native Infantry officers Mess tunic in red with black backings and silver bullion edgings and adornments. The three are in exceptionally good condition, very little staining or damage evident. A photograph of a painting of the actual officer Lt John Abraham Russell wearing the full dress coatee, is with this lot. Captain John Abraham Russell served as an officer in the East India Companies, 32nd Native Infantry. He retired on Half Pay in 1835. See Illustration £2000-3000

Click to view full image...Click to view full image...Click to view full image... 37th INDIAN BALUCH LANCERS FULL DRESS TUNIC etc. A Full Dress tunic of an officer in the 37th Baluch Lancers, complete with plastron front and trews. Solar Helmet with spike top and another in original metal case. Aiguillettes and a lancer pennant. The full dress tunic is black with the front, cuffs and collars in beige material. Plain convex shape buttons and gold bullion decoration to cuffs etc. Brass epaulettes with Captains pips and gold bullion aiguillettes, beige piping to the rear of the tunic. A 37th Lancers Lungi is also present with partial fulldress belt. These and following lots (with the exception of Major General L E Anderson CB's uniform), were mostly worn by Colonel A L B Anderson, Connaught Rangers, XVth and 37th Lancers, Viceroy's Bodyguards Adjutant also Comptroller of the Viceregal Household. Arthur Louis Brunker Anderson born in the West Indies 16/10/1889. Educated at Woodtown House, Rathfamham, County Dublin and Rossall School. Served in the North Tipperary Militia later 18th Royal Irish Regiment, thence the Connaught Rangers. 37th Lancers Baluch Horse June 1918, afterwards with the XVth Lancers. Wounded severely in April 1916 with the 88th, last officer survivor of the two Battalions that merged on 5th Dec 1914 in France. Full copied details of service are available. White piping and a central black rope decoration to the collar, with Edward VII buttons. Note attached to the tunic states it was worn by at least three officers in different periods of the 1910-20 & 30's respectively. Red (8) pipe decoration rope adornments to the front, mostly white piping to the rear with buttons covered in protective tissue paper. See Illustration £150-250

A 1920's Officers Patrol Jacket with soft sidecap and trousers, originaly 37th Lancers, buttons changed to XV Lancers upon amalgamation of the regiments, Black jacket with beige piping, silver hallmarked XV badge affixed to the sidecap. (Birmingham 1924), also with beige piping. The overalls are black with two wide beige stripes down each side. £400-500

Marked Birmingham 1883 and J & Co on the buckles and 1884 on the silver whistle and chains. Click to view full image... A M-GENERALS FULL DRESS UNIFORM etc. A Gt War period full dress uniform with Generals rank full dress coat, trousers, epaulettes, boots. Scarlet and gold bullion sash, full dress tunic with bullion elbow - cuff ornate decoration, Victorian RAMC sidecap with gilt/silver cm badge. A Generals grey cloth overcoat, with GV buttons. All contained in a tin trunk. The items in this lot were worn by Major General Louis Edward Anderson CB, later D D M S Southern Command India. Born 27/3/1861 at Roden Place Dundalk, educated at Dundalk School and Qualified at the College of Surgeons Dublin in 1881. Too young for the army he sailed as a Ships Doctor, for six voyages. 1881-84. He served in the Soudan Expedition December 1884 (Medal with two clasps-Khedives Star). Thence to India and served in the Tochi Valley (Medal & clasp). Served in the South African War (QSA with two clasps including Defence of Mafeking). KSA with two clasps MID LG 8/2/1901. Surgeon General 1912-Major General in 1919. War Medal 1914-18 for service in Ireland until 1916, thence India. CB 1913. Full copied details available. See Illustration £300-400

  A VICEROY'S BODYGUARD'S FROCKCOAT etc. A formal black dress Viceroy's Bodyguard's Frockcoat with EDVII buttons and cypher C1910. Another similar coat lacking its buttons, also three cased plumes. The first in black feathers for a dress hat, the second with full white horse hair for wear with full dress helmets. The third in red and white upright plume, for a parade hat. Masonic capes including Knights of the Black Heart and also Knights of the White Heart. Breeches and other uniform items, are in this lot. A white full length females Burkah outfit, with lace eye slits. Worn whilst on secret exercises and security operations, in Indian crowds C1938/39, by an army officer. A rams horn Snuff Mull decorated with emblems of England, Scotland and Ireland in Rose - Thistle- Connaught Rangers badge forms. Rams head and cloven foot front mount, snuff rake and spoon attached by chains. No visible hallmarks evident, cap inset with damaged oval polished agate stone. Hardly legible early inscription reads 'from ....K Campbell...to 2 Batt. A plate on the horns curve reads, 'From officers of the 2nd Batt 88th Reg to Officers of the 1st Battalion'. Height 6.1/4" and length of 10.1/4" With an original volume 'The History of The Mess Plate of the Connaught Rangers' by Captain H F N Jourdain MDCCCCIV (1904). This includes a description of 'A Snuff-Horn'. After a full page of description and notations, it states: This horn was presented in the first instance by Paymaster Campbell to the 2nd Battalion 88th Regt, and was then presented to the 1st Battalion 88th Regiment when the 2nd battalion was disbanded at Clare Castle in 1816 etc. See Illustration £500-700

Brass hilt and guard with inset cartouche of The East India Company, in its steel scabbard with two hanging loops. The repainted steel scabbard has a note attached reading sword worn by Lt John Abraham Russell of the 32nd Native Infantry C1825. He retired on HP as a Captain in 1835. See Illustration £200-250

Note the blade in the 1796 style has been lacquered many years ago, lacking a scabbard. £80-120

  A SUDAN NATIVE WARRIORS SHIELD. A shield of Elephant hide captured during the Sudan campaign of the 1880's. Brought back by an officer of the Queens Regiment, (Royal West Surreys) whose tunic is lotted in the uniforms section. Round form with a 23" diameter with 3/8" hide thickness, central boss at the front and hide grip inset. £80-100

  A VICEREGAL OFFICERS MAMELUKE. A Viceregal Officers Mameluke Sword carried by Colonel A B L Anderson whilst ADC to Lord Chelmsford in India. J R Gaunt and Son Ltd late Edward Thurkle London makers mark, numbered 15788 on the back edge. Plain white grips with crown over GvR in the quillions, with gilt mounts and swordknot attached. The very clean 33" plated blade has foliage and GVR decoration. The plated scabbard has ornate cast mounts and squared chafe, some plate lifting is evident. Old label attached reads, Vice Regal sword and scabbard belonging to Arthur L B Anderson and worn by him when ADC to Lord Chelmsford 1920-21. Captain of the Vice Royal Household. 1930-31 to Lord Irwin. And to Lord Willingdon April to July 1931. See Illustration £400-500

  AN IRELAND OF ELLISS QUAY LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICERS SWORD. An 1822 pattern Light Cavalry officers sword by Ireland of 12 & 13 Elliss Quay, Dublin, maker. The three bar steel hilt and grips are in good order. The 33" single-edged curved blade, with foliage decoration and VR cypher is exceptionally clean. Complete with steel scabbard with two hanging loops, and a label stating 'My grandfathers sword James John Andrews'. £200-300

  A VICTORIAN OFFICERS PIPEBACK SWORD. An 1822 pattern officers sword by Prosser-to the Royal Family-London marked blade. The 32.1/4" single-edged with spearpoint curved blade is decorated with crown over VR and foilage. Brass hilt and mounts with VR in the hilt, also brass mounts to the scabbard (two-pieces but complete). Prosser to the Royal Family Charing Cross etched at the throat, two hanging loops. £150-250
