The Luis G. Martin Collection Luis G. Martin (1945-2009), a native of Uruguay, made his home in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He lived in Canada for 39 years, was a professional engineer and an ardent philatelist. Luis enjoyed broad and deep interests in his collecting, including the challenges of studying "difficult material". Stamps from Helgoland, Uruguay and Batum were his favourites, and reflected his passion for the unusual. His studies of reprints and forgeries was incorporated into advanced collections, adding information to published literature on his subjects. Luis Martin exhibited both locally and internationally; his "British Occupation of Batum" was exhibited in 2002 in Victoria, British Columbia (Gold Medal) and in the United States at WESTPEX 2009 (Silver Medal). He was a member of many philatelic societies and corresponded worldwide, searching for treasures and sharing information. | |
