Bigot G. : O-HA-YO . Nd. C. 1880. Qto. Unusual publication with stiff paper covers featuring part glazed intricate pattern and thin cord flush binding. The contents feature 30 etchings and 10 woodcuts on Japanese paper. The etchings depict Japanese occupations and frequently bear the name 'G.Bigot' in the lower l/h corner. The woodcuts form a separate section with the title 'Une Chasse' and feature Duck hunting. ( We understand the main title O-HA-YO to read 'Good Morning' and the vertical Japanese heading to be a girl's name - 'Nanoyo' - possibly the name of another artist involved ). Generally well preserved and very scarce. Estimate £80 - £100

Mr. Cazaud : Account of a new Method of cultivating the Sugar Cane. Communicated by Joseph Banks, esq., P.R.S. 1779. Complete paper extracted from Vol.69 of the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, London. Contents include : Observations on the climate of Grenada; Table of rain fallen in the Eastern part of the island of Grenada from 1st.June 1772 to 1st.June 1773; Natural History of the Cane; Large folding engraved plate of the stages of growth of the Sugar Cane Plant. Dis-bound qto. section but well preserved and scarce item. Estimate £30 - £40

Journal of a Voyage from Dublin to Bordeaux. A Tour to Pau, through the cities in the South East of France, The Pyreenees (sic) & Spain from 1st.February to 4th.October, 1842. Three folio volumes containing a manuscript account of this journey. The volumes are qtr. bound with red spines, marbled boards and black leather labels on the upper boards indicating their contents in gilt lettering with decorated borders. The written account describes the journey in detail with reference to a range of features and episodes including : 1. The outward journey from Dublin to Bordeaux by the Schooner 'The Harp' - ''Left the Custom House dock in the schooner, Neil Fletcher Master, bound for Bordeaux from whence she brought wines and fruits. I was accompanied by my servant George Montgomery, a fine steady lad of about 18 years of age, a good protestant & reared on the Estate of Lord Eniskillen in Fermanagh, he therefore was a True Blue.'' There follows details of the crew and the ship's dog which had been rescued from drowning by the Captain and a favourite of all. 2. At Lazaretto,checking for plague aboard ship - ''Request the attendance of the Doctor on board to examine us & see if any of us were plaguy (sic) looking people.'' 3. Accomodation at Pau -''We marched into a monstrous large house where we heard a suite of rooms was to be had, so they could, we were asked 500 Francs per month .... 'Bon Jour Madame' and off we went. 4. Complaints - 'We took up our quarters at the Hotel Vidal, it was recommended to me by a friend in Pau, Mr.Markham a Bookseller, because it was cheap. It certainly was ''cheap'' but at the same time it was ''nasty''. The house was dirty and I crept into a bed without curtains.'' There are also extensive descriptions of significant buildings, statues, works of art and topographical features together with a few illustrations. A unique, fascinating and original work. Cricketing Autograph Album. Well preserved album containing signatures of team members involved in County Cricket Tournaments in 1954. County teams include the following : Surrey; MCC; Middlesex; Hampshire; Worcestershire; Kent; Warwick; Glamorgan and Lancashire. Among two pages featuring 'Gentlemen / Players' for 1954 are the signatures of Colin Cowdrey, David Sheppard, Trevor Bailey, Tom Graveney and Peter May. Also featured are the signatures of the 1954 team from Pakistan. The autographs were collected by Len Dolding, former Chelsea footballer and Middlesex cricketer; there is a newspaper article about him pasted into the album. The autograph of Dirk Bogarde on a piece of paper is also included in the album. Estimate £80 - £120

Football 1953 Cup Final Programme : 'Final Tie - Blackpool v Bolton Wanderers, Saturday, May 2nd. 1953. This Cup Final became known as the 'Matthews Final' where Stanley Matthew's performance enabled Blackpool to a 4-3 victory over Bolton Wanderers. This is an original, well-preserved programme which features annotated team photographs and players' positions in a plan of the field of play. Minor discolouration on the upper and lower blank margin of the back cover o/w vg+. Estimate £40 - £60

Ampthill and District ( Bedfordshire UK ) :A collection of original, larger monochrome glass plate photographic negatives ( measuring 16.5cm by 12cm. ) featuring local scenes of Ampthill and other locations nearby, dating from the early 20th.C. Images include a number of street scenes in Ampthill, Wrest Park, Houghton House, nearby villages ( inc. Maulden, Steppingley), local residents with contemporary vehicles and motorcycles, the local fire-brigade with full kit and 'emergency' vehicle, church harvest festival, road accident featuring a traction engine, steam train together with other scenes in 45+ plates. The plates are stored in a purpose-built wooden box and are generally in very good condition. Two plates partially broken. Estimate £75 - £100
