Many are regummed, some have reperforated wing margins, a few are without gum, but generally attractive examples and there are no real 'horrors'. We note 10 perforated 1d 'stars' incl SG 33, 1858 2d blue plates incl a nice pl 12, 1/2d plates [ex 9], SG 69/70, 72/3, 75/7, 83/5, 86/7, 89/90, 101, 110/11, 112/14, 118/9, 123, 125, 153 and 158, with most plate numbers running through. Carton 1840/2002 collection neatly housed in 6 'Utile' albums in carton. Strong used QV incl 4 decent 1d blacks [plates 3, 5, 7 and 9] and a 4 margin 1840 2d blue, 1841 'black' plates 1b to 11, a set of 1d reds with numbers in m/c [all bar 2 with 4 margin], 1841 1d reds from plates 12 to 41 [with m/c], then 46 to 174, the majority fine 4 margin examples. Later line engraved incl a fine SG 27, 1d 'stars' blued paper plates 1 to 47 [ex pl 3] and 1d plates to 224 [with a poor 225]. Also noted 1d pl 217 marginal mint pair with inscription and 2d pl 15 mint pair. The majority of surface printed issues [incl plate numbers] are present and in good condition [some very fine] and incl £1 SG 212. Folder Selection of 1968 De la Rue phosphor band trials u/m, imperf on gummed paper, believed to be the first successful phosphor printing by DLR. Bands are printed by letterpress using a rubber stereo, a range of eight different, in approx even quantities, orange, grey, turquoise blue and rose-pink, each in large and small head design x 5 of each (plus 1 each extra orange large and small).
