Ballon Monte - Russia. 1870 (Nov 17) Printed Ballon Monte lettersheet to St. Petersburg, two 40c stamps well tied by "1" star cancels with Paris Pl. de la Bourse c.d.s and red "PD", flown on the "General Uhrich". Pressed horizontal fold crosses one stamp, no arrival c.d.s (as is usual for Ballon Montes to Russia) but clearly genuine, franked at the correct 80c rate (only found on Ballon Montes to Russia, Turkey or certain destinations outside Europe).   Ballon Monte - "Ville d'Orleans". 1870 (Nov 21) Entire letter "Par Ballon Monte" addressed to Lyon, franked 20c (small fault at base) tied by "10" star cancel, flown on the "Ville d'Orleans" which landed in Norway, arrival backstamp (Dec 12). Repair at base, still a very reasonable looking Ballon Monte carried on this flight to Norway. £150-180
