New Town (scarce manuscript post office endorsement) to H.M.S Royalist/Singapore or Elsewhere, Extremely rare destination; the earliest of three examples of mail to the Straits Settlements in the pre-UPU period recorded by us, rated '5'(d) in red for a foreign ship letter and 13 Oct. 1853 E Jerusalem (scarce manuscript country post office endorsement) to Launceston, rated '4'(d) for a single weight inland letter. Both with the segmented circle Hobart paid inward datestamps and both used as transit markings, the latter being the latest recorded example of this marking. Interesting pair demonstrating domestic and foreign mail. Both ex McNamee and the former Ex Bombieri (2 covers) £550
