New Town (scarce manuscript post office endorsement) to H.M.S Royalist/Singapore or Elsewhere, Extremely rare destination; the earliest of three examples of mail to the Straits Settlements in the pre-UPU period recorded by us, rated '5'(d) in red for a foreign ship letter and 13 Oct. 1853 E Jerusalem (scarce manuscript country post office endorsement) to Launceston, rated '4'(d) for a single weight inland letter. Both with the segmented circle Hobart paid inward datestamps and both used as transit markings, the latter being the latest recorded example of this marking.
