Matchbox Superfast No.56 BMC 1800 Pininfarina Pre-production trial model - dark yellow body, clear windows, ivory interior, bare metal base which is a slightly modified original "Auto Steer" design rather than the final Superfast design (see photo), base have 4-line text "Made in England by Lesney Matchbox Series No.56 BMC 1800 Pininfarina", without copyright date and without Superfast lettering, base casting also lacks rear exhausts which were added to production version and without the cast detail above & below the base lettering and the front registration number is blank; trial Superfast narrow wheels fitted with a large diameter solid chrome disc - overall Excellent with some scratches to roof, factory paint flaw to hood and a couple of tiny chips to rear tailgate. £500-£600

Matchbox Superfast No.12 Land Rover Safari Pre-production trial model - blue body, brown luggage, clear windows, white interior without transmission tunnel cast, 5-spoke narrow wheels with tread patter cast, fitted with trial ivory plastic axle clips - Excellent Plus chrome loss to one rear wheel, tiny scratch to passenger front door and faint scratch to passenger rear door. Model consists of a pre-production cab & base casting without any lettering cast, painted metallic bronze, this cab & base casting has been fitted onto a later standard production body which has various late 1960's Matchbox labels applied, axles have been hand crimped rather than factory spun down. Matchbox Regular Wheels No.15d VW Beetle Rally Car Pre-production trial model - dark yellow body, clear windows, ivory interior, bare metal base, chrome hubs with black plastic tyres. Model differs from production versions in the following ways: base does not have copyright date and states Made in England by Lesney not "Lesney Prod & Co. Ltd", front bumper does not have cast braces, the front wings are also not cut-out to allow room for those braces; and the rear body has 2 central slots that fit between the rear bumper, these were deleted from the production versions - Excellent Plus unboxed. £300-£400

Matchbox Regular Wheels No.17e AEC Horse Box Pre-production trial model - bare metal cab & chassis which has a blank base without any model details cast (see photo), green plastic body with grey plastic ramp (this ramp is taken from model No.43c Pony Trailer and has not been modified with a top cut-out, black plastic grille and base with "Leyland No.10" lettering. Plastic body and base have not been spun down onto cab & chassis casting so are loose, model also missing glazing unit and has just one black plastic wheel and one un-spun axle. Components are Near Mint to Mint unboxed. £50-£70

Matchbox Regular Wheels No.42c Iron Fairy Crane - bare metal body and jib, lemon-yellow interior & base (not standard issue dark yellow), maroon hook, black plastic wheels, base without copyright date and jib has "high pin" holding the plastic hydraulic ram in position (production versions have the hydraulic ram retaining pin in a lower position). Base in factory spun down but the jib and hydraulic ram retaining pins have been hand hammered by the factory into place - overall Near Mint unboxed. £300-£400

Matchbox Regular Wheels No.23c Commer Milk Float trial model - light green un-spun body without decals, green windows, white plastic load, bare metal base, fine tread black plastic wheels. This is a trial casting of the new body/base allowing the base to be riveted into position rather than the earlier clip-fit base. Base has not been spun down onto body and the axles have not been factory spun down, the base interestedly has been painted gloss black on the inside only - Near Mint complete with Good type E4 box. £80-£100

Matchbox Regular Wheels No.41c Ford GT40 Racing Car - white body with blue hand painted hood and side stripes which have "Ford GT" lettering, blue stripe decal to roof and rear engine cover and racing number 1 decals to doors and rear engine cover, gloss black base, wire wheels. Model appears to be a hand produced one-off design office model rather than a preproduction model as the base has been removed and re-attached and the axles have not been factory spun but have been hand filed, all lights and air intakes have been neatly paint superdetailed. An interesting curiosity particularly as it comes from a deceased estate of a former Matchbox Draughtsman Employee - Near Mint complete with Excellent Plus "New Model" type E2 box. £40-£60
