Click to view full image... IRWIN JIM: (1930-1991) American Astronaut, Lunar Module pilot of the Apollo XV mission. The eighth man to walk on the Moon. A.L.S., Jim Irwin, one page, 4to, Colorado Springs, 24th May 1986, to Sean, on the printed stationery of the High Flight Foundation. Irwin states that he was pleased to have been with his correspondent at Ameripex '86 and thanks him for arranging his participation in the Space Unit programme and commenting 'I am hoping for great results on the Apollo 15 cover auction'. Irwin explains that the proceeds will go towards the missionary projects of the High Flight Foundation and further remarks 'I gave 25 of these covers to the Foundation and the others went to our children. Perhaps you could help us market the other covers? You could be an answer to prayer'. The astronaut also writes 'I spent a lot of time in Bethpage as I learned about the lunar module at Grumman. Your part of the country is very familiar to me'. Irwin concludes by subscribing his letter 'Your grateful friend from the Moon' and also adds the mission name Apollo 15 and a small drawing of the Moon beneath his signature. About EX £100 - 120

Small selection of three signed 8 x 10 photographs by Duke, each of them different images, the first depicting Duke standing in a full length pose during his final flight suit fit check at Dover, Delaware, ahead of the Apollo XVI mission, the second of the astronaut standing in a full length pose wearing his spacesuit and using a Thumper for firing charges as part of the Active Seismic Experiment during EVA training prior to the Apollo XVI mission, and the third showing Duke and his fellow Apollo XVI crew members John Young and Ken Mattingly standing on some helicopter steps on board the USS Ticonderoga following the successful splashdown of Apollo XVI on 27th April 1972. Skylab IV was the third manned Skylab mission and placed the final crew aboard the first American Space Station. The three manned Skylab missions were officially designated Skylab II, III and IV and mis-communication over the numbering resulted in the mission emblems reading Skylab I, Skylab II and Skylab III respectively, and also accounts for Gibson's notation of Skylab III on the present photograph.

Armstrong was one of twelve test pilots to fly the X-15, completing a total of seven flights in the aircraft. During the 1960s the X-15 set various speed and altitude records, reaching the edge of outer space and collecting valuable data used in spacecraft design.
