BOXING: A printed 8vo menu for a Press Luncheon held in honour of Jack Dempsey ('World's Heavyweight Champion and Star of Universal's “Fight & Win” Films') hosted by the European Motion Picture Co. Ltd., in the Abraham Lincoln Room of the Savoy Hotel, 18th May 1925, individually signed by various individuals in attendance including Jack Dempsey (1895-1983, American Boxer, World Heavyweight Champion 1919-26) and his wife Estelle Taylor (1894-1958, American Actress, wife of Dempsey from 1925-31), Frank Moran (1887-1967, American Boxer who fought twice for the World Heavyweight Championship, and later became a film actor), Jimmy Wilde (1892-1969, Welsh Boxer, World Flyweight Champion 1916-23), Bombardier Billy Wells (1889-1967, English Boxer, British and British Empire Heavyweight Champion 1911-19), Gilbert Frankau (1884-1952, British Novelist) and Carl Brisson (1893-1958, Danish Actor & Singer who starred in Alfred Hitchcock's film The Ring). All have signed with their names alone, Dempsey and Wilde in fountain pen inks and the others in bold pencil. A very lengthy, neat split to the vertical central fold and with some light age wear, otherwise about VG £80 - 100

Blue ink signature ('Muhammad Ali') to the centre of a partially printed small 8vo page removed from a pocket diary and bearing the heading 'Forward Planner 1981'. With a few ink and pencil entries above and below Ali's signature in the hand of the previous owner of the diary. VG £100 - 150
Provenance: According to information supplied by the vendor, he obtained the signature of Ali in person at the Pierre Hotel in New York in 1981 when the boxer was lunching at a neighbouring table in the hotel's restaurant.

Very slightly irregularly torn to the right edge and with a staple to the upper left corner, not affecting the signature, otherwise VG £150 - 200
Provenance: According to information supplied by the vendor, he obtained the signature of Ali in person at the Okura Hotel in Tokyo ahead of the boxer's fight against Mac Foster on 1st April 1972. The vendor was staying at the hotel and was invited by Angelo Dundee to a breakfast meeting with Ali.

An excellent signed colour 10 x 8 photograph, the dramatic image depicting Ali standing in a full length pose in a boxing ring, his opponent Sonny Liston lying flat on the canvas before him, during their second meeting in Maine on 25th May 1965 in a fight for the World Heavyweight Championship. Signed ('Muhammad Ali AKA Cassius Clay') in bold silver ink to the image, additionally adding a lengthy quotation in his hand, 'Three time Heavy Weight Boxing Champion of the [world; here Ali has drawn a simple sketch of the earth] after me there will never be ANOTHER'. The second bout between Ali and Liston for the World Heavyweight title remains one of the quickest (and most controversial) bouts in history. As illustrated by the present image, Liston was knocked down in the first round and referee Jersey Joe Walcott stopped the fight at 2.12

Click to view full image... ALI MUHAMMAD (1942- ) American Boxer, World Heavyweight Champion & PATTERSON FLOYD (1935-2006) American Boxer, World Heavyweight Champion 1956-59, 1960-62. Signed colour 8 x 10 photograph by both Ali and Patterson individually, the image depicting the fighters in full length poses facing each other in the ring during their second meeting at Madison Square Garden in New York on 20th September 1972 in a fight for the NABF Heavyweight title. Signed ('Muhammad Ali') by Ali in bold black ink to the image, further adding a brief quotation, 'Serve God, He is the Goal', and the date, 26th December 1989, in his hand beneath his signature. Ali has also drawn a black circle around his signature, quotation and date. Signed by Patterson in black ink, 'Wishing you health, happiness and a good life, your friend, Floyd Patterson'. The signatures of both Ali and Patterson are to clear areas of the image. VG £250 - 350
The present photograph was captured during Ali's fourth defense of his NABF Heavyweight title, and he was again victorious against Patterson, the fight being stopped at the end of the seventh round when Patterson's left eye was swollen shut. The fight would be the last of Patterson's professional career.

Attractively matted in white alongside a 10 x 8 photograph of the Busby Babes standing and seated together in two rows on a football pitch. The present group of signatures includes the scarce examples of Byrne, Pegg and Taylor, all 'Busby Babes' who tragically died in the Munich Air Disaster of 1958.

A.N.S., with his initials A.E.R., one page, 8vo (apparently the inside of a greetings card), n.p., n.d., to Anthony. Ramsey writes, in full, 'Unfortunately I haven't a photograph but thought you may like a greetings card. My sincere good wishes to you'. Matted in red and white alongside a colour image of Ramsey in a half length pose holding the Jules Rimet trophy and with an original England rosette issued for the 1966 World Cup affixed beneath Ramsey's note. The image depicts the Brazil team standing together in a row on the pitch at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City ahead of the World Cup final against Italy on 21st June 1970. Brazil were victorious in the World Cup final of 1970 beating Italy 4-1. Many distinguished football commentators consider the Brazil national team of 1970 to be the greatest association football team of all time.

Click to view full image... HOBBS JACK: (1882-1963) English Cricketer. A.L.S., J B Hobbs, one page, 4to, Clapham Park, London, 13th April 1928, to Mr. Campbell. Hobbs thanks his correspondent for their letter and remarks 'I am very glad to hear you succeeded in getting Mr. [Pelham] Warner and I am sure the meeting will go off quite well on May 13th without any help from me', further asking to again be excused and explaining 'I really dare not accept invitations to these functions, if I once started I should be worried to death, for you have no idea how many of these invitations I receive, and I should have no excuse then. I am afraid you will put me down as a bad lot but please try and let me down lightly'. Some very light creasing and minor traces of former mounting to the verso. Together with a vintage signed Christmas greetings card, the official MCC oblong 12mo stiff folding card featuring an image of the MCC team who toured Australia 1928-29 to the inside.
