Britains - Set 1266 - 18" Heavy Howitzer - Mounted on Tractor Wheels for Field Operations [1947/48 issue in PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN COLOUR SCHEME], comprising: 18" Heavy Howitzer - Mounted on Tractor Wheels, Brass Shell Charger, 6 x Silver Plastic Shells [both still contained in factory sealed packets]. Gun painted in RED. Minor age wear otherwise generally Near Mint overall, contained in a generally Excellent [minor storage wear] [Lemon] label box. The Lid label bears an Oval Stamp - "RED" & is further Stamped - "SAMPLE". In 1947 and 1948, Britains produced a number of Guns, Vehicles and Aircraft in a range of primary colours [see lot:4968 - 28th March 2014 Sale for an Underslung Lorry finished in the same Red scheme], in order to make them more attractive to young children. This is the first time that a Red Boxed First Version has come to light. Extraordinarily Rare & possibly Unique, the first example to be seen / sold by Vectis. £150-£300
