| A SELECTION OF PIECES FROM THE FELIKS TOPOLSKI COLLECTION, lots 214-224. | Feliks Topolski RA, the Polish expressionist artist whose style is exemplified in lot 214, was a collector with a veracious appetite for travel. His autobiography (published 1988), which documents his extensive travels, also reveals that that his collections were formed both overseas and in London: "Historionics at the expensive purchase of a head-hunter's weapon and the troublesome dispatch of it home. The London junk-shops full then-on my return-of exotic souvenirs costing next to nothing-overflowing with objects gathered by generations of colonials now reduced in circumstance and in space, sweated out on to the incurious market. I concluded that my traveller's collections should be made only back in London."
