Malcolm Morrison was born 27/6/65, enlisted in Horse Guards No 1365 10/9/85, discharged 8/1/89, served Glasgow City Police 23/1/89 to 7/8/96, joined Lovat's Scouts 6/2/1900, served in S Africa 11/3/00 to 13/8/01, discharged 20/8/01, attested H Division Northwest Mounted Police in Canada 14/11/01, served 6 years in Northwest Police before retiring aged 41, returned to UK 1916, died 2/1/43. His Boer War attestation papers list his unit as the Black Watch Special Highland Scouting Corps before the name was simplified to Lovat's Scouts after its founder Simon Joseph the 16th Lord Lovat. Click to view full image...Click to view full image... WWI Distinguished Conduct Medal, BWM, Victory Medal and Memorial Plaque to 200243 Sjt E.T. Bird 2/6 R. War R. (1900 on pair, Edward Thomas Bird on plaque) medals extremely fine, plaque about very fine with card case of issue. His DCM was announced in the London Gazette dated 3rd September 1918 "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of a platoon during a raid on enemy trenches. He showed initiative and leadership in forcing a way through the enemy wire and making a passage for his own and the supporting platoons. His platoon subsequently captured a machine-gun and inflicted considerable loss on the enemy." He was killed in action on 11th April 1918 and with no known grave is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial. With copied CWGC, Soldiers Died, MIC and LG, only issued a pair, from Birmingham. John Locker's DCM was announced in the London Gazette's dated 4th June & 9th July 1917 "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has consistently performed good work as a Lewis gunner, showing remarkable coolness and courage in the discharge of dangerous duties." <\n>Sold with original photo in uniform wearing DCM and photo of Lewis Gunners football team, birth and death certificates, he was born 7/10/1894, to France 9/9/15, died 12/5/59, lived in Castleford. Ralph Harling Cummings DCM was announced in the London Gazette dated 11th March 1916 "For conspicuous gallantry when, on the retirement of the regiment, he was with the last party to leave the position, and brought out of action a machine-gun and tripod, displaying coolness and bravery under trying conditions," possibly a Battle of Loos award. Fleetwood R.A. (137/Hy By R.G.A. on MM, Gnr 4th M.B. R.G.A. on QSA, R.G.A. on Star, Cpl R.G.A. on LSGC) nearly very fine to nearly extremely fine. The MM was in the London Gazette dated 27th October 1916. With 6 copied pages of service record, John Fleetwood was born in Woodstock in 1876, enlisted 19/12/1894, served SA 16/11/99 to 12/6/01, papers also state issued South Africa 1901 clasp to QSA (this missing), promoted Sjt 1/8/14, to France 22/9/14 with 109 Hy By, clasp confirmed, discharged 1/2/20 with 25 years service.   WWI Military Medal to 9713 Pte E. Riley 2/Durh L.I. nearly extremely fine. Edward Riley was killed in action with 2nd Bn during the Battle of Flers-Courcelette on 16th September 1916 and with no known grave is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. His MM was announced in the London Gazette dated 27th October 1916. With 14 copied pages of service record, CWGC, Soldiers Died, LG and MIC, enlisted in 3rd Bn 4/7/13, sentenced to 6 months in civil prison for neglect of children 23/6/14, mobilisation papers issued while in prison and he was released into military custody 6/8/14, absent 24-31/10/14, tried by DCM for AWOL and sentenced to 28 days IHL 21/11/14, to France 5/1/15, deserted on leave 25/11/15, apprehended by police 13/1/16, returned to France 19/1/16, trial by FGCM dispensed with 26/4/16 but all former service forfeited, rejoined Bn 7/7/16, from Ferry Hill, Durham. MM almost certainly a Battle of the Somme award. (R) £300

With 13 copied pages of service record, LG and MIC, born Gateshead, enlisted DLI 10/12/15 aged 18, to 15th Bn DLI in France 15/11/16, to 6 DLI 6/12/16, transferred to 244th Labour Coy 9/6/17, transferred back to DLI (6th Bn) 3/9/17, letter states that on "27th March 1918 near Amiens whilst in a counter attack he was wounded in abdominal wall by machine gun bullet, and that when going back to be dressed, he was again wounded in left buttock by machine gun bullet", evacuated to England 31/3/18, discharged 5/10/18, re-enlisted in Labour Corps 10/6/19, proceeded to France for Graves Exhumation, deserted from 24/7/19.   WWI 1914-15 Star, BWM, Russian Medal of St George 4th Class (No 1273292 on reverse) to 176845 E. Warnes M.A.A. R.N. (Shp Cpl on Star, 176845 E. Warnes M.A.A. 1916 on rim of St George and additionally engraved "Minotaur" Jutland on reverse at top) good very fine and better. Ernest Warnes was Mentioned in Admiral Jellicoe's Dispatches for the Battle of Jutland in London Gazette dated 15th September 1916, sold with original Admiralty MID certificate. With copied service record, born 1/2/78 in Gaywood, Norfolk, enlisted as a Boy 17/10/93, joined Minotaur 15/5/14 and served through WWI on her. Minotaur was an armoured cruiser on the China station when war broke out and was involved in combat action against German interests sinking a merchant ship and bombarding the Yap radio station. She was present at Jutland as the flagship of the 2nd Cruiser Sqn and escaped without suffering any casualties. Appears to be discharged 29/12/19, St George not confirmed on service record.   Football Charge on First Day of the Battle of the Somme brothers medals with <\n>1.<\e>1914-15 Star trio and Memorial Plaque to 3062 Pte A. Busby E. Surr R. (Alfred Busby on plaque) good extremely fine. Alfred was killed in action with the 8th Bn on Montauban on 1st July 1916 and is buried in Dantzig Alley British Cemetery. Captain Billie Nevill provided a number of footballs for the 8th Bn to kick across no-mans land in their attack at Montauban on the 1st July, 2 of which were later recovered from the German trenches. Alfred landed in France 24/8/15 so also likely to have been at the Battle of Loos where the 8th Bn was first blooded. The Battalion suffered 446 casualties on 1st July <\n>2.<\e>1914-15 Star trio to 13350 Pte J. Busby North'n R. good extremely fine with crushed box of issue for pair. Joseph Busby was Alfred's younger brother by 2 years and landed in France 29/12/15. With Proficiency in Mental Nursing Medal to Joseph Busby. On the 1911 Census Joseph was listed as a Lunatic Hospital Attendant at St Andrew's Hospital For Mental Disease, Billing Road, Northampton. Robert Edward (Edmund) Harris died on 7th July 1916 and is buried in West Tofts (St Mary) Churchyard, Norfolk. With copied attestation papers, Bn nominal roll (part) and CWGC. He is listed as Robert E Harris on attestation papers, Robert Edmund Harris on CWGC and Edward on battalion nominal roll. He was born in Norfolk 4/10/1894, attested 8/1/15 stating former service in Norfolk Regt Cyclists, NOK listed as Mrs Edward Harris of Huntsville, Ontario. (R) £230
